I know its too early for this

I know its wayyy too early, but I called Thomas BMW and had them take my name down so I can send them a holding deposit as soon as they hear about allocations for the M2! Of course they have no information on anything yet, but as soon as allocation info is available, I'll be ready

I have had a deposit down with my dealer for 8 weeks, just in case they green light the M2. No deals were available on the 1M in UK so expecting early adopters to face the same strategy. Just hope that they make limited edition again in the UK as it has kept residuals high.

I put a deposit down January 2014.
It's a 100 bucks but I'm the only one on the list and I have a screenshot of the transaction to prove it.

At this point, my CA has moved stores, and the dealership is now part of the corporate mega-craphole called Lithia.

I'll check it out, but right now I'm seriously looking at the Porsche 718 or the 4C Quad-Spyder for my next car.

I don't expect there will be any 'deals' to be had for at least the first 6 months of supplies, it will be standard retail price, so I don't think it hurts to put a few hundred down and I will probably do the same.

Having said that I wont be that desperate that I will pay over the retail price, but I think getting a deposit in early should prevent that. It should only be 'walk ins' that might get jammed with mark ups.

I never understood the motivation behind putting a deposit down on anything that there's not a mechanism for accepting deposits on. Even if it did officially exist putting a deposit down on a car that you don't know the specifications of and have never driven really doesn't make a lot of sense.

For that matter car dealerships change hands and go out of business under the cover of darkness, giving them deposit money under any circumstances is risky.

if its anything like the M3/M4 you are never to early. David was taking allocations for M3/M4 years before launch and now with the low allocations those who were early on the list are scoring big time.

I already spoke with my sales person and I am the first on the list, I did not give a deposit, as they said it was not necessary. But I got my down payment already to go

I think it is fairly easy to figure out the cost based off the 1M, M235 and the M3/4.
I would guess $60-70. However BMW's new option gouging will be evident I'm sure. You can the buy the same M3 for 70k or 90K....

What if it's negligible for someone... All relative. And maybe it's somebody's dream?

I actually spoke to you guys about getting an M2 and put my name on the list. I spoke to Sean Friday and he definitely helped me out.

Based on how well the M235i is doing, I think we can all safely say (at the very least) that it won't be a POS.

There really is no need to place a deposit unless you want to be one of the first to have one. If you can do ED and PCD then allocation problems are moot as you can buy from any dealer in the country.

Unless it's $100 deposit I rather invest the money.

Correct, I was one of the first with my 1M and I would like to do the same again with the M2. 1M was a good choice lets hope the M2 is an even better choice. No ED or PCD available in Europe.

Yeh, I remember similar comments on the 1M and I kinda liked how that turned out. Pos, I agree with you that it is highly unlikely.

#2 at my dealer, no deposit required, actually is not allowed. I agree, based on success of M235i this car should be a shoe-in. Hoping for EU delivery but just incase, I'm holding my spot.

Final price makes a difference, sure, but confident BMW won't overprice at risk of cannibalizing the M3/M4, of which the base model is well-equipped.
