But Scott26 just posted earlier that the X4 just has another year. It will be just the M2 starting 2018 and doing all that for one car that does not sell much or make a tidy profit on a per car basis is still not going to be very profitable.

Please elaborate SCOTT26.Any implications for the engine powering the X4 M40i (265 kW), which also happens to power the M2 (272 kW) (N55B30T0) ?

I wish they do make me the CEO, even if it's for just a year. I'll make sure there is an S55 M2 with a 6 speed MT and a lot of carbon fiber. Will even price below the GT4.

I'll even produce enough so everybody gets one.

I think @Scott26 is telling us the end of production for the N55 is in sight and the B58 is coming as its replacement for all vehicles currently with a N55. This goes for the X3, X4... and M2.

The 8 speed ZF auto was not available in the e46. One would have to know which model was being discussed and "330i" is not enough information.
Oh maybe I wasn't clearer earlier. When I said 330i, I assumed you already knew the year. If you knew which year, you would easily be able to tell what engine it had based on 330i, 340i etc.
Agreed

So replacing with an S55 would be less profitable, and replacing with a B58 w/out top output config would be unprecedented for an M car. AFAIK, BMW has never introduced a T0 engine less than 4 years after the engine upon which it was based was introduced. We got some time left, and it coincides with the end of announced M2 production.

I really don't see the B58 in the S58 guise coming into an M car till the next M3/M4 in 2021. An improved N55 or a de-tuned S55 would probably be the more probable options. The S55 would be about 6K more than the N55 (I think I saw this on PrematureApex's post earlier) so the price increase to maintain profitability is not that much.

We really think and some of us hope that it would be the S55 based on the spy shots, videos and the fact that an even more powerful and hardcore version of the 2 series would need a closed deck engine which the N55 might or might not be.

Once again, based on the presence of UKL based test mules, and the absence of current 1 and 2 series test mules. The current 1 and 2 series chassis are on the way out. Therefore it makes no sense that an S55 base model will go into production. Further, if they are going to introduce another line, an N55 base and an S55 CS produced concurrently, where is the plant capacity to do so? Remember that the current supply is constrained by plant capacity being shared with the more profitable UKL based X1. The idea that BMW will now make an S55 engined version in numbers, for not much more than the current car just doesn't make any sense. Obviously true Beliebers will dismiss this as sour grapes, but there's just no logical, or business sense to what some posters are suggesting in here.

Again, I'm happy to be wrong, I flip my cars every 3 years (mileage, depreciation and tax advantage, rather than being a gazillionaire ), so if there's something better coming, awesome, my current ownership of an M2 wouldn't stop me from getting that in 3 years. But I think that this current chassis is coming to an end and it is far more likely that any S55 M2 is going to be a limited edition and that there are going to be a lot of players and very few seats in this game of S55 musical chairs.

Already posted. See here for a compilation of M2 test mule videos:
http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...3#post16905583

And peculiar for the September 2016 tests: judging by the sounds, BMW M is testing two different M2 engines at the same time: the N55 and another one (likely a detuned S55).

What would the price of a theoretical M2 CSL be? 80-90k?

If you look closely, they are like the new 5 series. I have nicknamed them the "pushup bra" with the inside strap going to the kidney grill. I believe that BMW has done this so that you can distinguish the eyebrow from the halos better.
