How the heck did this happen to our cars all of a sudden? Am I behind on some threads?

I had to wait for them to do the update before they would release my car for sale also. Luckily it was not at port and already at the dealership.

According to a previous email I received on November 7th...

"My apologies. I thought I had told you last time you came by. But yes, the car is in Halifax now undergoing port campaign."

SA is referring to a visit I made to the dealership to have some warranty work done on my F30 a couple of days prior to that. So near as I can tell the car has been "off the boat" for about 3 weeks. They did have to install the MPE, but I can't imagine that takes 3 weeks.

I'm starting to get annoyed.

Hi Folks,

Is anyone aware of whether this fix involves a new(er) version of the ISTEP firmware...? As far as I can tell, the up-to-now most current firmware version is NBTevo_L171931 ... so if this fix does involve an ISTEP update, it'd be worthwhile knowing what version of ISTEP you end up with after the fix is applied.

As this problem appears only to be related to the LCI instrument cluster, and that updates to ISTEP end up on pre_LCI cars, its possible (although I think unlikely) that this won't involve an ISTEP update and be something that's applied directly to the cluster

My dealer has advised that my LCI will require a software update, but I don't know whether that's related to the question that I've asked about errors in the BMW maps or this particular issue.

Cheers,

Found 2ers forum post mentioning the same issue.

Apparently, there is one dude who had his 2 series delivered to his dealer but waited for his car to have the recall to be resolved at the dealership and he did pick up his car few days later (mentioning that dealer said that they do have the software update fixing this issue).

Problem that I found some saying that the fixing and updating the software takes aroun 2.5 hrs?? That I think it pretty long time for a simple software update??

If it does take 2.5 hrs per a car, I have nooooo idea how many 2 series and M2s have to go through this update at VPC sitting to meet their owners.

Seeminlgy, that the issue started from Nov 10th.

Are cars impacted by this going to be listed in the BMW Safety Recalls website? I entered my VIN and it said I'm not impacted by any recalls.

Just spoke with my SA and my car does not show "port campaign" in the system, so maybe my car is out of the affected VIN range. Yeah! It's actually on the BOHEME.

Here is an update on my car for those who might be interested in the timeline. The car arrived in NJ on the Tombarra 11/9. It reached my dealer today 11/21. My dealer is in NJ only about 30 miles from the VPC. Unfortunately I'm in FL for the holiday but I will be picking it up on Saturday.

Congratz!! I just visited my dealer now and my SA mentioned that there is fix software update available at the dealership.
Also he mentioned that VPC must have it as well and should be moving cars at this moment.

Excellent! I remember seeing that we were on the same ship from one of your previous posts. Best of luck!

If the vin doesn’t pull a recall notice on the bmw website does that mean the car isn’t affected by this issue?

Not necessarily - that might not be updated yet, or they may never update it for whatever reason. My car doesn't list any recalls there either, but it definitely got the instrument cluster software fix/update.

Thanks, I may need it - my car's been sitting at the Jersey VPC since it finished its processing work order on Thursday, yet there is still no shipping info and even the 'Geniuses' can't explain why it says "NA" by 'Released to Carrier'.

Not sure which is more frustrating - being in Florida when your car becomes available at your dealer, or being at home and your car not being available cz it's still sitting at the VPC for unknown reasons with not even a shipping estimate.

Things in Jersey don't always leave Jersey.

Indeed! When I asked one 'Genius' if I could go get it from there, he of course thought I was completely insane. But I'm only 3 hours away and I could get a one-way bus ticket for < $20...
