Manual M2 Owners - Short Shift kit?
Getting my M2 in less than 2 months.
Has anyone with a manual feel the need for a Short Shift Kit (i.e. UUC)? I actually have not driven an M2 due to high demand. Thanks in advance for input/suggestions. |

I got the UUC short shifter on order. There's too much play and sloppiness stock. It's a good shifter. I want a great one.

Add the M Performance shift knob and boot if you want a little reduction in throw (about 15-20%) plus better feel but without the NVH and notchiness you'll get from a short throw shifter. The M Performance shift knob size is 1.62" diameter (perfectly circle), 2.77" tall. The OEM "ZHP" knob size is 1.86" wide, 2.19" long, 3.06" tall. The M Performance shift knob is fractionally heavier and is solid. The ZHP knob has some cushioning. I absolutely love the M Performance shift knob, the improvement in shift quality, the shorter throw, the look, and the ease of installation.

The UUC Evo is actually not as well designed as the hype makes it out to be, with these pins that I promise you will come loose no matter what you do. It rattles around and generally is overpriced IMO.
I haven't looked much at the M2 yet but on all my BMWs previously I just slap the E60 M5 shifter in there with a UUC DSSR. This cleans it up real nice. While you're at it, you can add the F10 M5 ZHP knob and get illumination.

anyone have a remedy for this UUC issue?
I just had a shop install the UUC evo3 short shift kit in my M2. Now there seems to be an issue with the placement/position of the gear lever. Everything it angled too far forward. If you shift into 5th for example, the shift boot is stretching. If you're in 4th gear, it's where neutral was in the OEM unit. The new neutral position is there 3rd was on the stock one, etc. My thought was that they installed it backwards and need to turn it 180 degrees to remedy the issue. However once they double and tripped checked, it is installed properly according to them and rotating the unit 180 degrees will only result in it being even more forward. I had a UUC SSK in an F80 M3 a couple year back and it was just fine, so I'm wondering if I possible received a faulty unit or if this shop is either incompetent or bent something during install. We have also played with the height of the shifter without luck. Something is definitely off. It sounds like others have installed this in their m2 with good success. Thanks all!
