I never quite understood this myself, but it all does add up pretty quickly. I got surprised when I went to finalize the deal on my M2 and saw that the tax was 1.4% more than expected. Forgot about the luxury tax. Wasn't going to walk away from the deal over that, but it was annoying.

Now, this pollution tax that Corrine talks about sounds insanely high. That may throw me the other way. Is this just France btw?

France

Manual transmission M2 199g/KM of C02 = 10,000 EUR extra to pay

This may seem like peanuts to some of the super rich here but I bought my F80 after working bloody hard for it and it's already a 100,000 EUR car so 10,000 extra killed the manual transmission for me

It's third year (MY16, MY17, MY18) and these four colors are all we're getting until the end of the original run in MY20.

And the “good” news is that next year the French government is increasing it to € 10,500 !
They do it because the French donˋt actually produce any interesting cars so itˋs a form of protectionism.

What about the Citroen SM? Was pretty advanced for it's era. I knew someone who owned one when I was a kid. Made an impression anyways.

Hate to break it to you, but the production ended in 1975.

China, MT, 0.1%
Are we finally going to get the MT? Great! I've been waiting so long!
Wait, we are not going to get 1,000 M2s? WTF...

Small correction. I deleted one car from the ECE models. The VIN was issued along with the build sheet, but the car was actually never built.

So, in the US, there is a total of 5823 M2s and only 2828 LCI models. May not be limited production...but darn near close.

I've read though most of the last 7 pages of comments. For those of you that don't want to - I've summarized for you below:

Page 1: has some reflection on what the production numbers mean and some patting on the back to the OP for providing this info (thanks, OP!). This is to be expected, as this is a post about M2 production numbers.

Page 2-7: Mostly posts about someone's grandma and 6MT vs DCT debate (oddly, these are not mutually exclusive posts). These posts are also to be expected though, as this is the Bimmerpost forums, and not providing an option about transmissions on every thread would be unheard of.

Thanks for the summary. I am eagerly awaiting the transfer of my LCI LBB M2 with the DCT and wondering if I should have chosen a manual. By default, I'd assume the 6MT will be the collector go-to, however, question is...will the manuals be driven more sparingly and the DCTs as dailies...leading to fewer DCTs surviving long term?

It's hard to compare them. Different SOP, different model years, different model year spans. F80/2/3 are more popular
