A BMW sales guy at our auto show did not even know what a differential was when I asked about the LSD option for the M235i...

If BMW does this M2 right (keep the weight down) than they have me as a customer again.

Also they should make this M2 raw. Who cares about park distance control, navi, etc. Okay maybe just keep Navi because lots of people would whine this car does not have a Navi. But keep all the radar lane detection, radar cruise, out of this car!

Oh yeah, and keep this car manual only! I will be buying a manual for this car. I have a 2 year old son and he would love watching me shift through the gears. When he gets older I will probably teach him how to shift the gears while sitting in the passenger seat. My dad did that with me and it was an awesome memorable experience.

Sometimes more simple = better!

As I stated before this new M2 is going to be the "new" M3 of today. The current M3/M4 now seem to have grown in size, price, and luxury amenities. I strongly believe anyone that was a pure M3 lover from 10 years back will want to buy the M2 more than the current M3/M4.

I agree^

Just seems too long, sine we've have a proper/quint style car.
E46 is the last pure M, & the piecemeal 1M is still the mark.

I have high hopes for this M2, because it apt to be a purist's car.
The reason I picked up a 135is, instead of the M235i.. I like the input from hydraulic & can't wait to see how the e-stuff is tuned for the M2.

I bet they offer many trip/levels of this M2. And I do hope they offer an upgradable chassis, to something like what Caddy/Vette have, plz..
I love a taut suspension as much as the next guy, but it nice to be able to turn that into a cush ride and sink into comfort on a long trip, etc.

Anyone with a pulse... wants to strap into a M235i R and rage.
The M2 will be this, with multiple levels of nannies.. so us retards don't kill ourselves.
The off switch is there.. but that's best left for the track.

*It also should be 3,350lbs.. and offered w/CF roof & driveshaft, (trunk, & quarter panels?). I hope they allow for some WIDE front tires.

The M2 is 100% guaranteed to not be manual only, it will most definitely have M-DCT, why, because the car will be faster with it and approx. 75% of buyers don't want a manual. Performance figures, whether you like it or not, give bragging rights to car manufactures, so M-DCT is a lock.

And again, this car will be a weapon, but it wont be a 'track focused' car. It will be just the same as every other M vehicle, and will be available with all of the options list, including moon roof, the same as the other M vehicles. BMW are not in the business of alienating the bulk of their customers and loosing sales by making a narrow focused vehicle.

The key is to get the packages offered right...

If someone wants a stripped-down, light weight track car with MT? They should be able to order it that way..

For me? Its my EDD...So gimme Nav, DCT, ZCP, LSD, PLUS I want a sexy sizzle of an interior with carbon fibre trim, Nappa leather and have it look as gorgeous as that new X6's or 6 GC's innards..

Different flavors for different folks

Hurry up and pick up that 1M, regular 1 series cars are just so ghastly.

I predict that the M2 will have a base starting price of roughly $54k-55k.

^considering that the m3 and m4 start at 62 and 64 respectively I'm guessing around 53k (10k more expensive than the m235i and about 10k cheaper than the m3/m4) with light options around 55-56k and all the options 60-62k Im just hoping for 6 speed manual, better color choices and about 150-200 lbs lighter

I'm with you. I just used the 428i and the M4 as the basis. The M4 is about $24k more than the base 428i. So assuming something like $21-23k premium the M2 commands over the base 228i, that should put us around $54k or so base price for the M2. I guess we'll see when it comes out. We still have a way to go.

$48,500 base

After that, it will add up fast. I suspect the basic min/max build will about $52k.. $58 fully loaded. $60k with PP from BMW.

Any info would be great, don't hold out if you know anything. I just spoke with my sales person two days ago and they had not heard anything yet.
What's the question?

No offense, but dealers typically don't know a lot. I have been in more than one where differences between the N54 and N55 could not be explained to me by employees.

Perhaps yours is different - but the general attitude I've seen is along the lines of "buy a 528 over a 135/335/NASA space rocket...because it's just better"

Just sayin...
That's probably because you spoke to someone who started off by selling Hondas then made their way up to BMW for the money.

I've been a member of the forum for years and have owned several BMWs by now. Most of my clients who buy a car from me buy because of my knowledge and clear enthusiasm for the brand and it's cars. I don't do the cheesy salesman tactics. Just up front and honest info with love for the brand to back it up.

I totally understand why you feel that way and I feel the same way because I work with such individuals.

Not a bad prediction, 1M started at 47K USD, so M2 could be under 50K starting. Its sort of wishful thinking though, I expect starting to be low 50s

1M started at $47k with limited production was a way for BMW to test the waters and also hype up the market for the new era of M cars (turbo I6, etc). BMW is going to make the M2 their bread & butter for their performance cars. They dont have to sell this one (M2) cheap cuz they now know theres a market for it. Also we have to see where the competition is at, amg45 starts $50s so my guess will be starting low to mid $50k
