Which, like much of this experience, makes no sense, but whatever. All's well that end's well, and the end is now in sight. |

I'm getting in touch with my CA today to see if I can't get at least two sources of information to match. |

But this whole deal is screwy enough that none of us will know for sure until we get a call from our dealers that they have the cars in their possession. |

Been out of pocket for the last couple of days, but some good work here guys, appreciate the efforts and information share.
Lisa confirmed that I made it on Orion, so hopefully will get the car around the 16th or so!

You got Lisa? Did you ask for her, or just get her randomly? Did she find the car by VIN or BOL number?

I gave her the BOL# which took a bit of effort to get out of the Genius hotline, and she immediately told me the vessel name/voyage # and ETA to Brunswick. My SA did email me this morning and told me an ETA to the VPC in Brunswick of the 10th-15th, but that was all the information he had. Still didn't know ship name, other than HH. So hopefully I get to drive M2 in a week and a half or so....

Shit, dude, we have a problem, maybe? That is exactly the same HAM I was given!! In my case, she matched it to my VIN. I will call and follow up...
No problem. K-Line guy (named Mervyn) explained that the bill of lading number is applicable to "hundreds of cars," not all of which are on the same boat. What confirms the boat involved is the VIN. He also wants me to e-mail him a complaint explaining how BMW Genius has been handling, or not handling, our inquiries. He is certain they know information they have been told not to share with customers in cases like this, and is pissed off that they have been referring people to K-Line. Do you know when your car actually arrives at the dealership? My SA said that he would get it late Friday and it would take him 4-5 hours for pre-delivery inspection and asked me to come on Saturday instead.

And yes, according to Mervyn, cars with the same BOL number can be on different ships. Why exactly they need the BOL at all to locate the car under those circumstances is still a bit of a mystery to me. Perhaps the BOL narrows the field, and the VIN is the final filter? Dunno. There is something Wizard of Oz about all of this. Right now, though, it's all about getting the cars stateside, and at the dealers. I trust that the rest will follow comparatively smoothly. |

i would expect that the BL are split by vessel and then port, at least originally. BMW has made a contract with K-Line to deliver X# of cars from Point A to Point B, and from a paperwork exercise you would keep it split by ship and then by port, both of these are typically stated on the BL.
now what happened here is going to be a bit unique. what should happen is that when the cars are moved from the HH to whatever ship they are on, they would get a modified BL, that would tie back to the original. usually the modifier will be tagged on and carried at the end of the original #. The ship's master signs this before he sails, and then you do a similar exercise on the other end. There is no way a single BL # would cover cargo being spread out over multiple ships/ports. multiple cars, yes of course, but not ports/ships. not without being modified. now i have no clue as to what the original BL# was, and if the #s we have now are the same as the original, or a modified #. Could be either. But i am pretty confident that this doesn't matter, as the number we are given now should represent a load of cargo on 1 ship going to 1 port. if i understand the post correctly zumbido's car has a BL=HAM122700 which K-Line says is on the Horizon Highway going to Charleston i was told that my BL=HAM122701 and I am on the Orion destined for Brunswick. Bruce you said you have the same # i got. If i remember correctly you are also bound for Brunswick? and so the big question i didn't see you post, might have missed it, are you on the Orion due in on the 10/11th?

Ok Bruce, I just skimmed over the thread one more time and found where you stated you are on the Orion and due into Brunswick on the 10th or so.
so all is good. our numbers match, and we are on the same boat headed for the same port.

The wait is literally killing me! Getting conflicting info from the Genius, go figure. Called Thursday and they said my car left the VPC on Wednesday. Called today and they said my car left the VPC Thursday. Huh?
Currently set to hit my dealer tomorrow, Saturday. My CA tells me if it shows up early in the day they can prep it and I can pick it up Sunday. If it shows up in the afternoon they will prep it Monday for a Monday evening pick up. I'm booked with some family stuff tomorrow but have all Sunday carved out. If the car is there but not prepped for delivery yet and I have to wait till Monday to pick it up, is it OK to still do my trade-in, sign all the papers, etc. on Sunday even though I'm not taking delivery that day? It seems a bit strange. But then again, on Monday after a full day of work, I'll just wan tot fly into the dealer, grab my new wheels, and go. I wont want to mess around with all the hours and hours of BS. |
