Michelin PS Cup 2 Tires - road and track

Just a quick review of the MPSC2 tires on the M2.

I swap my tires/wheels for the track, and I've considered driving to the track (maybe throwing a spare in the trunk, just in case) on the competition tires...so, I decided to look into the new Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires.

I have a set of CCW 10in/11in wide wheels, w/Nitto NT01 tires, for my former car (2015 M4). These just are a smidge too wide for the M2 body, so I decided on another set of factory M2 wheels and went with the Michelin Sport Cup 2 star spec tires (developed specifically for the 245/265 staggered M2 Set up). I resisted the urge to go up to the M4 size (255/275) this time around.

I drove on them to the track (to scrub-in and remove the mold release compound). They were great on the road. Quiet, really responsive to initial steering, and a bit stiff (no surprise there). At the track (LRP), they were excellent. Maintained pressures around 35-36 when hot, and they did really well. I need to add some significant camber to the car (stock set-up now) so the fronts were beat-up on the edges. The rears looked great. Lapping around a 1:05 at LRP, so running decent times.

Would recommend these tires if you're tracking the car. They're pricey but a very good tire.

I also run Sport Cup 2s (star 245/265) on my car, so thought I would add in my 2 cents to the OPs review.

I had the dealer swap out the PSS for the SC2s pre delivery and keep them on for both street and track. My previous experience with the PSS is that they are a fantastic summer street tire but just not capable if you drive aggressively on track. I agree with the OP's experience that the SC2s offer tremendous grip but will wear on the outer edges of the fronts. I corded my fronts in less than 3 track days running stock suspension. Now on my second set of fronts, running 2.7 degrees of front negative camber and coilovers, which have corded as of last weekend at LRP after about 7 days. Rears are wearing great and still have a bit of life in them. I talked to Will Turner while at LRP and he suggested running 3.5 degrees of negative camber, which is I guess what they run on their cars, but may not make sense for a street car.

Great tires but I may try a different setup next year, considering the poor wear and price. Thinking either the RE71s or NT01s, which seem to wear really evenly even on stock suspension and last a full season. Would be great to hear from someone who has run the SC2s and some other tires aggressively on track for a comparison. Otherwise, I can add my experience this time next year.

Forgot to add, these tires are not very good in the rain. They have great grip in damp conditions but will hydroplane easily in standing water. Also, they require some heat to work, more so than the PSS. So expect the back end to come out easily during acceleration in temps under 45.

For anyone considering them as a street only tire, I would suggest sticking with the PSS/PS4 which is engineered for street use.

hi, I am also considering switching to MPSC2
What are the reasons, or rather pros/cons of a 245/35+265/35 set versus a 255/35+275/35 set? Any issues preventing the bigger tire?
