The cat adds confusion.

It will either die or it won't depending on whether the material breaks down or not.

And to add further cat confusion: the M2 comes stock with cats. Some prefer going decatted and code the car to fool the system to make it believe it does have cats, and, by doing so, avoid the system throwing codes. So when you see an M2, it may or may not have cats. But in the end that M2 either has cats or has no cats.

Further more, You must analyze these cats at a "cellular" level to see how likely they are to throw codes.

So is it a closed block design then? If it's not then I want my money back, but I want to keep the cat!

'Open' and 'Closed' have not come to a purrfect conclusion yet:

But if 'Open' wins, let's look at the bright side of things: also open deck can bring joy.

I still believe it is a closed deck..... That removal means nothing.

Never said I would sue them, but i'm sure someone out there would. Seems like a pretty good case for some BS class action lawyer to hock at BMW.

Again wait till someone opens one then we can talk more. I daily drive this car and have like 8k miles. I much prefer this drivetrain to my friends S55, he does too and each have a lot of time in both cars. Say what you want, thats the truth.

With miles, not time I have come to give a *hit less about this. Keep waiting for that CS man, good luck.

As a guide according to Wiki, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_advertising

In the US:

" The goal is prevention rather than punishment, reflecting the purpose of civil law in setting things right rather than that of criminal law. The typical sanction is to order the advertiser to stop its illegal acts, or to include disclosure of additional information that serves to avoid the chance of deception. Corrective advertising may be mandated,[36][37] but there are no fines or prison time except for the infrequent instances when an advertiser refuses to stop despite being ordered to do so.[38]"

re: your second picture...
I suspect any well lubricated direct injection head would prefer to sit atop a purrfectly open deck box... I mean ... block..

Are you going to apologize to everyone for all the name-calling and insults if you're shown that you were wrong?

Glad you don't care too much about it anymore. But it's not like you simply said, "my opinion is that it's closed". You ranted and raved like a pissed off child about how idiotic everyone was for thinking it could be open...remember?

You're being sarcastic or rhetorical right ??

He knows now and he knows we know he knows. If he still wants proof or acts like he does, he's probably a little slow and definitely not worth the time.

Good ideia

But I guess it would be cheaper to make an industrial x-ray to the engine...

Case closed on this question, it was always the standard N55 open deck block (as suspected)

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Some of the original information contained in the press release was incorrect and since then has been updated. I can confirm that the M2 engine has been and continues to be open-deck.

Best regards,
