Tow Hook Front License Plate Holder

Can anyone recommend where to find a tow hook front license plate holder for my M2? Looking on google and eBay turned up a number of suppliers and huge variation in prices. Plus none of them indicate they fit the M2 yet. I'm told the one for M235i would fit but I don't want to take the chance ordering unless I'm sure.

I have this one: http://www.usmillworks.com/

It's spendy, but very well built. It cleared the bumper, once I offset it over to the right. I got the "lightened, quick release" version. Handy if you autocross or track the car.

Another US Millworks user here. Wouldn't use anything else. Easily removed, quick release plate detach for washes, and way over-engineered for its purpose...exactly how I like it.

word up fellas, just purchased one. Good looking out.
Got the lighten quick release... A bit pricy but appears well built.

One of the best things about living in AZ, no front license plates, they don't even issue a front plate.

(For anyone looking for an alternative.) The Sto n Sho works well on the M2. I had it on my totaled F80 and now it's on my M2.

tke743,
This is just the type of thing I was thinking of,( I started a thread in the cosmetic section) I'm uk based so have the longer thinner plastic plate.

How does it fit regards the angle of the licence plate area? Gap at the bottom but near at the top?

Can you post a photo of it on the M2. I would like to see what it covers. Looks like it keeps the airflow cleaner compared to the BMW bracket.

It is angled and the angle matches the pitch if the bumper. So the gap is consistent top to bottom. You have some control over the mounting location so you can go out further if you wish.

I'm on the road right now, but will post when I get back. It looks quite similar to the F80 M3 below.

It isn't to make it so you don't scratch the plate, it is there so you can pull a pin and remove it when you don't want it there.

I'm interested in this option, but have a few questions:

1. You used an F80 M3 Sto n Sho on your M2, right?

2. Did it fit the same on your M2 as on your M3, i.e., with respect to pre-drilled holes, etc.?

3. How many holes did you have to drill in your M2 bumper to accommodate the Sto n Sho bracket?

4. Is it necessary to dismantle any front end parts (e.g., bumper, skid plate, etc.) to install the bracket?

Thanks for your help. -scr

tke743, thanks for the pics.
That's just what I'm looking for, I think I'd possibly drill the underneath of the bumper to add a little more strength/security to the bracket.

Cheers,

M

Solcalrob, from what I gather;
Q1-yes
Q2-yes
Q3-it says held on with 3m tape,
Q4-no

TY those above 4 answers are correct. Use the standard red 3M tape and use the adhesion promoter. In removing it from my totaled F80 we levered it off and it took a chunk out of the bumper plastic. The tape didn't fail. It can be removed with a hair drier, but otherwise the bumper plastic fails before the tape does.

Thanks, Mc.d and tke, for your helpful answers. I think I'm going to go ahead and order one of these.

On my X3, I used one of the tow hook brackets (made by Platypus - very good quality), and it is working just fine.

However, I think I prefer the appearance of the center mount bracket, and it appears I can install it easily without maiming my M2's bumper.

Again, thanks! -scr
