Enjoyed the pics.
Pick up my M4 at the Welt on April 29. Glad I didn't hold out for the M2 - nothing wrong with it. Just not for me. To each their own!

The fatal flaw in this evaluation is the use of an M4. The F8x is now a mid-sized vehicle and a coupe version of it was a sports car is compromised therein without the true benefits of the added size.
The m3 is better proportioned (from the side, which alot of these comparison shots are from) and offers the benefits of the larger size to full effect. It's less costly too. With almost no weight penalty. I look forward to driving an M2 one day. Great review!

Just my opinion, the M4 looks way better! I know most of the people on here love the way the M2 looks. I am not one of them, it looks too short in all dimensions; kind of like a Pug. The M4 just looks more mature to me.

M4 owner here:
Both cars look absolutely stunning and I can totally understand why one would choose the M2 over the M4. It's less money, looks great, sounds good and from the reviews so far it's performs well. However the M4 is the standard of which the M2 was designed. After having my M4 for about 6 months now, I have to say this car is fucking incredible and puts a smiles on my face everytime. It can be docile when you want it or brutal in it's power delivery so you have to have some level of respect for her. So if the extra money is not an issue M4 all day, everyday! |

My S65 never had heat issues at the track. Odd thing to bring up.

I'm sure the M2 is a track beast, but I still think the M4 is better looking and for someone my height, 6'4", much more comfortable and easier to get in.

I expect it will be nicer than my M Performance 135i interior, and I am perfectly happy with that combined with the N54 under the hood. |

For what most drivers on here will do the performance difference between the two is not going to be a discernible factor. I have a moderate amount of track time and I know i can't even come close to the limit of the M4. As a daily driver i'm guessing the M4 will be more composed, more comfortable, but will definitely feel heftier when tossing it around during spirited drives. Thing is, unless you are a track junkie neither car will be a letdown on the track. That is unless you are coming from a Porsche or from some truly lightweight track car. In that case, both of these will fail to deliver that visceral track experience. They both look great, M4 is sleeker, sexier. M2 is more of a bruiser. Looks tough, short, and squat. Final comment. S55 feels so much stronger than the N55. I can't imagine the N55 in the M2, even properly tuned, delivers power as well as the S55. The comments about more immediate response in the M2 baffle me. |

The M4 looks better than the M2 to me. The M2's rear appears chopped off.

M6 and m3!
The M2, my fav. God that car looks great. Tough to tell but it looks like the m2 has a little more neg camber in the front and a little less in the rear than the m4... might help contribute to what the reviews are saying about the front end biting harder/more nimble feel... of course the shorter wheelbase helps quite a bit. I highly doubt the cooling on the top of the n55 weighs a hell of a lot, or would noticeably change the feel of the front end. Want want want!

Despite sharing a lot of components, it's clear that in the M2's case, less IS more and a smaller size, all things being equal, is a better feeling car and most likely faster car in the corners. The F80 chassis is too big to give any feeling of reward or excitement. Nice to see some objective comparisons instead of being trapped in the echo-chamber that is the M4 board.

Extra money not an issue here. M2 all day, everyday. I've already got a very high horsepower GT-type car, and a track toy. Both cost far more than an M4. I want a DD I can alternate at the track with the purpose-built track toy. M2 just right for that. At least on paper. We'll see. |

Yep that M Perf exhaust sounds a lot better(understatement)
Having driven an M4 DCT for 3 days some weeks ago, I must admit I was in love with the whole package after a while(one day of finding out what the chassis/steering/shifting buttons etc do in real life) especially the engine. The exhaust not at all... On day three I found it way too big and almost clumsy in small town traffic even though when driving like a moron on B roads it makes itselfs 'smaller' in the steering and feel overall than it actually is. Wow. But then again, it's a huge (GT) car imho... So nothing to do with money. getting back in 1M was coming home, the oldskool BMW M feel. almost as powerful irl and twice...no triple more connected and sporty imho... A Bentley GT has way more power than an M4, is way more expensive but I'd never choose it even if I had the money If there wasn't an M2, Id go for an F80 M3(more macho looking than M4 imho) with an Akra or something...because the F80/82 needs a nicer exhaust definitely... Cheers Robin |
