Comparable manual transmission
Hi guys,
I'm contemplating getting the M2 with manual transmission, and as I've been in automatics for so long wondered if the M240, or M3/4 would have a comparable transmission to test out. As it will be my daily driver, I want to make sure I can live with it Thanks, Andy |

Also, I amsorry I can't provide feedback on the manual. I haven't driven any BMW manuals as a matter of fact. My last manual was my WRX, which I'm sure is much different from the M2 tranny. |

BMW Midtown, and ask for Alex Atherton, he's a great guy and most of the dealers stop at my bar (after work!)
They're selling, as far as I know, at MSRP, and I think they've got about 5 on the waitlist (I'm being tempted to pay $6500 for the flashy decals of the performance package!) I'm also trading in my 235i, which I bought from them a few months ago! |

as far as ease of driving around town day-to-day, the m2 is a LOT easier than my e92 m3. it slightly revs up for you as you let off the clutch and as you may know, auto blips for you on downshifts. at times its annoying as i've driven MT for over 20yrs, but it definitely makes it "easier"

Test the M3 or M4 manual and you will know the feel.. also do the BMS clutch stop posted above. It was the first thing I did to my car.

I actually recently picked up my 6MT from Advantage Midtown. The MT is quite smooth, even a bit rubbery if you will. I don't think this is necessarily a problem, I do think a lot of drivers may be used to more a "notchy" feel though so this will be different. Coming from an auto to this prob won't be too bad, especially with the rev-match feature (grrr mixed feelings on that). Clutch travel as mentioned above is hella farrr!!! Certainly second the BMS clutch stop, it makes timing of shifts much smoother. All in all, I'm a fan of this MT

Is that true? I thought that was the case, that it actually rev matches up as well as down. I suppose this will make for smoother up shifts. I only care for when I would have passengers as I never shift below maybe 4k rpm.

Do it. I only opt for manual trans anyway but I can say this 6MT is the best I've driven. I've come from a 2015 4 series w/6MT and I've driven an M4 w/6MT and the M2 is so well done.

The auto-reving feature works from a stand still to help get the car moving. It's particularly useful for getting in and out of garages with lips or stop and go traffic jams.

As for rev-matching...can it be turned off? Someone please say yes. I can heel/toe my own downshifts thank you very much. |

Auto-rev from dead stop: YES Rev-Match: YES Rev-Match OFF: YES, but only if DSC is OFF. You can still heel and toe with it on no problem; only thing is you'll never do it as well or as quickly as the car. |
