Dang. Might have to get a slightly used mustang to get me by for two years, while waiting for this one.

Gonna have some decisions to make... This comes out just at the same time my warranty is over. Do I buy a dd and garage queen the last and only NA V8 M or do an ED for an M2???

Go ask your friend at Braman why Dinan is releasing a piggyback for the M5 and not a ecu tune. See what he says.

Cheers.

Not so sure of that.

The 1M doesn't suffer from boxster-itis.

the m4 is obviously light years ahead especially if they are using an n55 for an m2.,,. no comparison m3/4 better in every way

I'm excited to see how this turns out. I'm afraid how big the M4 is. M2 may be a better fit for me.
The 'middle child' kind of placement you're referring to is right, but I also chose the 335is because IMO the I6 TT was much better and more fun than the crappy V8 in the M3. In this case however, both cars use the N55. One simply has more power, and the kind of person who would even buy an M235i over a 228i (Think more power, sportier) I think will opt for the M2 as well (As long as the money is there)
Oh wow, you best put on a fire retardant suit ASAP!

Calling an s65 garbage will get you castrated around here. Lmao

S65 is epic man! A real track ready motor.

Best news this year!

Sign me up, because I was shopping a cayman s 981.
Can't wait to see them compared. So far the Cayman S has my vote.
Mine too but that's because it's already out. And I test drive one with a PDK 2 weeks ago, and it was freakin amazing! It was still so very engaging to drive and felt very visceral.

I couldn't help but think to myself this is the best car I've driven in a long time, perhaps ever, especially under 400hp.

The M2 can win me over if they do it right. But the cayman will own the looks department still IMO. Not to mention it's feel and low weight will be difficult to match. It'll still be a better car.

There's a lot more to the S55 than a couple of turbos.

ENGINE
  • 3.0L inline 6 cylinder engine (S55) with two mono-scroll turbochargers
    • 3,027 cc (compare to 2,979 cc of N55)
    • 89.6mm bore / 80mm stroke over-square (compare to 84mm bore / 89.6mm stroke under-square of N55)
    • Derived from N55 engine
    • Direct Injection
    • VALVETRONIC
    • Double-VANOS
    • closed-decked crankcase (4.4 lbs / 2kg lighter)
    • twin-wire arc-spray coating (instead of liners) in cylinder bores reduce engine weight
    • 20 lbs lighter than V8 S65 engine (from E90/E92 M3)
  • 430 HP (approximately) from around 5000-7300 RPM
  • "far beyond" 369+ LB-FT (500 Nm) from under 2000 RPM to over 5000 RPM
  • See Dyno Chart
  • Slightly above 7500 RPM redline

I think we should all wait to see some preliminary specs and info released, otherwise we're all just speculating.

However, I am excited as fvck for this car, could be a great replacement or addition to the current E46 M3 owners, myself included.

You are the one spreading stories. Your opinion is way off base and incorrect.

No Cobb takes much much longer to crack BMW ecu and they lost their BMW guru Rob Irish last year. For instance the N54 ecu, they were much later to game than Dinan.

Once again. Fact Dinan does all their own in house hacking. They hire Cal Tech engineers. Steve has a softeware team of 6 individuals that literally spend their entire work day hacking ecu's. Steve say on average it takes them half a year to hack an ecu.
and their software still sucks. lol.

Isn't the guy who was doing 4 cylinders for VW/Audi now with Mercedes AMG, and is the one responsbile for the CLA 45AMG?
