I currently run an aftermarket SpeedTech N55 exhaust manifold and wanted to know if you think the Funk Motorsport N55 exhaust manifold blanket could work on the SpeedTech manifold as well. If not, I may need custom inconel heat shielding, not sure if you know any companies for this.

In addition, I'm currently running a BorgWarner 8374 connected to the SpeedTech manifold and wanted to buy a Funk Motorsport turbo blanket for my BorgWarner. Let's says theoretically the Funk Motorsport N55 manifold blanket worked on the SpeedTech manifold, do you guys think it would be compatible with the Funk Motorsport BorgWarner 8374 internal wastegate turbo blanket ?

Lastly for installation, would I have to remove the turbo and manifold, or can I install these two blankets with the parts already on the car ?

These are the links to the items I'm interested in :

Funk Motorsport BorgWarner 8374 Turbo Blanket -

Currently, I am looking to get the Thermal Zero Lava EFR B2 turbo blanket (SKU : TZ32047-B) for my Borgwarner 8374 to go along with my pre-installed Thermal Zero 3" downpipe blanket (SKU : TZSUBUPB-B). As for my SpeedTech N55 exhaust manifold, I think my only option is to go with a custom inconel thermal shield design, since I do not see exhaust manifold blankets or wraps doing the best job. Does anyone know any companies that do quality custom heat shielding for my SpeedTech exhaust manifold ?
I haven't seen many turbo blankets on the n55 unfortunately and it has to do with the waste gate actuator arm being insanely close to the turbo manifold. So becareful when you install your turbo blanket and ensure there is enough clearance between the wastegate actuator arm and blanket.

In terms of the exhaust manifold heat shield I do not know of any company that makes a good custom and affordable heat shield. You could always ceramic coat it, exhaust ceramic coating does take the edge off of the heat and does a pretty good job of it too.

my turbo is the 0.92 A/R T4 internal wastegate, I'm pretty sure what I sent you is what I have. I may be wrong, I'm not even sure how to tell to be totally honest.

I know, but I think the arm going to the actuator sits alot closer to the turbo body.

I mean they made one specifically for my exact turbo so I don't see there being an issue. people even wrote reviews saying it worked so I'm sure it's fine

Also, when comparing the two manifolds (top being stock, bottom being SpeedTech), I feel like it could maybe work, only issue being the middle connecting area.

I know, but the ewg versions are extremely tight. I spoke to jeff about it awhile back and he told me the same thing. So that's why I am warning you to ensure there is enough clearance.

I just contacted Jeff at SpeedTech and Funk Motorsport about the manifold and BorgWarner blanket. I'll update you what they say. Also, for installation, do you think I would have to remove the turbo and manifold for the covers ?

Sounds good.

Well that depends on how small your hands and forearms are + how dexterous your fingers are. You will probably need to work with a bore scope camera or an inspection miror to see the turbo and waste gate area.

Having tools like those shown in the funk video would defintely help.

Worse case scenario you will likely have to take off the downpipe, stiffening plate, intercooler, turbo outlet, and turbo inlet to reach all sides of the turbo to get it on.

the shop said the turbo part is easy apparently, it's more so the manifold that's worrying me. I think the shop could work something out though. I already mentioned to them yesterday about wanting some kind of protection for both the turbo and manifold. By time SpeedTech and Funk Motorsports respond, maybe the shop will have an idea and I can update them with what our options are. Worst case, I'll probably just leave the manifold exposed but I'd really like to cover it up with at least something

The turbo part would be easy if you could see it at all. you also need to inspect the waste hate arm for clearance. The manifold will also be a challenge.

Imo none of this will be fun.

I'm just shipping it over to the shop since my car already there and I don't have a lift. I just don't want to pay an arm and a leg if my manifold has to come off. last time I had to take it off… man let's just say, not cheap

great news, Funk Motorsport believe their exhaust manifold and turbo blanket setup should work on my SpeedTech kit. I'll be contacting my shop on Monday and to clarify with them whether or not I need to remove the manifold for installation. Funk Motorsport says I won't have to remove the turbo and manifold

installation came out taking 4 hours with a $520 installation fee. I didn't get to push the car due to it not being dialed in yet but it seemed to feel responsive on full 93 octane. I had to evacuate Tampa due to a hurricane so I didn't fill up with ethanol.
