Dinan Resonator Delete for OG M2... worth it?

Just wondering if people here have installed the Dinan resonator delete, and what your thoughts are...

I'm looking to make my '18 M2 a little bit louder... I'm not looking to make it obnoxious, but somewhat louder would be great!

Also... if I get the resonator delete, is the Dinan muffler worth it? Should I bother doing the delete without the muffler?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, one last thing... will the M2 still pass California smog testing? I honestly don't want to have to swap it in and out every few years!

Thanks!

Deleting the resonator or getting a new muffler shouldn't affect smog at all since it doesn't touch the catalytic converter. Plus all dinan parts should be smog tested iirc.

I think the dinan muffler sounds pretty good, if you're installing the parts yourself you can wait to do it one at a time to get a feel on the sound. If you're hiring someone to do it for you like a shop, it's best to save money and do it both at the same time. If you're close to dinan you can pop by their shop to take a listen to their m2.

What I would be concerned about is the california noise law that was recently passed.

Thanks for the info! Wish I could hear what it'll sound like before I make the change....

Anyone in Los Angeles, with an M2 with Dinan muffler and resonator delete?

Thanks again for your info!

Is the dinan HQ closeby? You could pop over there and have a listen.

I did the res delete first with stock muffler. It sounded good. Then I did the Dinan muffler and it took it to a whole new level. More exotic deeper and refined. Only complaint is 3000k drone. But I also have fabspeed sport cat.

I would just get the M Performance muffler. It has great sound and is legal in California. Plus you get a BMW warranty.

The MPE has a resonator delete.

I can't speak for just the res delete but I did that and the rear section at the same time. It's louder but not obnoxious except for cold start with the valves open. I think it's just the right level of noise for a sports car and completely livable. For my tastes I think just the res delete would not be enough of a difference.

Same issue here. The fabspeed sport cat + Dinan exhaust was too loud for me. Added the resonator delete pipe, to see if the change in frequency would help with the drone. It sounded great, but didn't change the drone. Then I added a BMS CAN flap controller, so I could close the valve when I didn't feel like hooning around. Perfect setup now. Smooth, and refined when I want it. Scare your grandmother loud, when I open the valve. Resonator delete adds to the loud crackles and pops.

Good to know. I will look into the CAN flap controller. Was it easy to install/setup?

Literally, just plug it into OBDII port

Ended up getting the Dinan resonator delete with Dinan exhaust! It really sounds glorious!

The video Happy Motoring posted reflects very accurately the increase in sound and pops from my M2 after the install!

Purchased it used, and got a great deal on it. What's nice is, when you're simply tooling around town, it doesn't sound loud and obnoxious... it's REALLY loud if you do a cold start in the morning, after opening the flaps, or when you punch the throttle! Car roars!

Drive down the street at 2000-3000rpm, doing 30mph, and it doesn't sound much louder then the stock exhaust!

Really exactly what I was looking for!

I also don't get any drone on the freeway.

Do you have a downpipe or stock?

The aftermarket downpipe is the culprit for the drone. Most ppl say its the res delete. I disagree.

Instead of doing the delete, get a high flow cat with the stock exhaust and you get a fantastic sound and a healthy power boost. I seem to recall the fabspeed cat will pass CA emissions.

It may pass California emissions from an output perspective, but it does not have a CARB EO number, so you will automatically fail if the testing station actually goes by the legal standard.
