M2 E-Diff
Can anyone confirm that the diff in the M2 works as described in this article?

That article is 4 years old, so no. But it is similar, as it is the same product that is used on the M3/4.

Calling it an "e-diff" is misleading, and folks will start thinking it's something like the "e-LSD" on the series base cars. The M2 has a MECHANICAL LSD, but also sensors to help engage the diff lock-up proactively under certain circumstances. Same as the M3/4.

Anytime you're stopped at a light and making a right turn. If you have traffic coming and want to get out in front of them quickly, with an open diff that inside rear wheel is gonna spin and spin if you're not careful. LSD you will get good traction and not nearly as much slip.

True, but with just 30% the M-P LSD is not even comparable to the real M thing. I compared the WOT right turn from stop between 3 cars: my AWD Golf R, my RWD M235i before and after M-P LSD install - and while w/o the LSD, the inner wheel spun like crazy while the car barely moved, after adding LSD it's now almost as quick in this kind of launching as my R is... But almost makes a lot of difference, so I wish I had the real M active diff!

That's good to know, as I do not plan any track adventures with my M235i. And - after a second thought - logical, too; more lock-up doesn't always mean better (though of course the M-diff being adaptive, proactive and what not, it overall certainly is a better piece machinery than the modest M-P one). And really - I'm not exaggerating when saying that comparing the above described scenario between my AWD R and RWD M235i - even with considerably higher torque available in the latter (450 vs. 380 Nm), I could WOT it with front wheels turned considerably, and - apart from the obvious tire squeal, missing completely on the R - the grip/acceleration difference wasn't that great. I dare say that it could have been just that squeal that left me with the impression that R was able to accelerate marginally faster in the described launching; I never timed it but it could quite possibly have been the opposite... Anyway - the M235i with M-P LSD is a much more dynamic (and safe) car than without it; I recommend it wholeheartedly to every M235i owner.
