I'm starting to feel the same way...

I have hundreds of pictures of the M4 on my computer and dozens of "builds" on BMW.com, but the more I see of the M2, the more I think that is more of what I really want.

I LOVE the look of the M3/M4 but I have an F30, and I've never gotten used to how big it is.

The M4 is the same size as my car, which means it's also too big. I hope the M2 is as awesome as the M4, just in a lighter, E36/E46 sized package.

Yep. This is going to be one to remember. This is the car most of us performance enthusiasts have been waiting for. Now the fat/bloated M3/M4 makes a lot more sense.

I have a feeling this will be the car they decide to mess with and not offer a manual transmission for... It doesn't bear on their bottom line as much as the other M cars, and will most likely be the most performance oriented out of them all as well which leave the door open to make the whole "DCT is faster" argument. Not that i care, i'd gladly buy with DCT but i just have this strange feeling in my gut they will do something radical with this one. Theres clearly an opportunity.

M235 better than 1M?....ah, no.

I agree it's not...However its damn close to its performance. The M2 wont match the 1M's performance though, it will be much better.

For those who don't follow CDN pricing, a fully jammed M235 with A/T is 62k. My guess is 72-75 CDN for the M2. For those prices I'll expect a hell of an upgrade in terms of interior quality (ie materials) or at a minimum, the option to at least upgrade the interior to something more than you get in any run of the mill 1 or 2 ser worldwide.

Cover the interior in leather and call it the "Executive Pkg" rather than repeating ad nauseum that the factory can't accommodate your sacred "Individual" options. And put in a proper stereo system instead of that over priced and over rated HK crap. But heaven forbid, don't call it an "Individual" system that you can get on the rest of the ///M lines because "the factory" won't be able to accommodate it. And don't get me started on paint colours. Are some of the more interesting/exciting choices going to be made available or are they also going to be too "Individual" to talk about?

Yeah it's going to be one hell of a drivers car but some of us drivers would like a couple of creature comforts and a bit of a distinctive look and feel for something we're paying so dearly for. And if some of this fancy shit weighs too much, I'll gladly take a set of manual Recaro's up front please...and thanks. If BMW sticks to this mantra and gives us an M2 with a 118d interior, they're truly fucked. Pardon the English...but I'm sure they'll understand it in Garching just fine.
I agree - the colors and options were limited on the 1M due to time/money/life cycle restrictions. There are no such limitations here - only those that BMW choose to "self impose", which just seems counter productive to me.

The color choices, for example, are already pretty limited on the M235 - but you can get Valencia Orange on a non-M sport 228? Who thinks this shit up? It makes no sense at all.

And the stock radio in the F22 is truly apocolyptic. Hope they can do better than that for 60K too.
What people want:

S65
Full novillo leather including dash or alcantera
Upgraded headlights
m wheels
Carbon brakes
Carbon roof
Upgraded stereo
Highly upgraded sudpension
Amazing m-sport level loud exhaust stock
Weight 200lb lower than M3

What we will get:

Tuned M235i

Just like the 1M, BMW will use up all the N55's they have left on the M2.

I feel like even 375hp is too little for a modern day M car, but I guess they have to keep the numbers under the M3 & M4. I'm interested in how they will balance price, features and performance to justify its position in the lineup.

I'm enjoying the progressions as much as when the 1M was prototyped. The M2 seems to be hitting most all the right buttons. I'll take mine in black!

That's what I wanted to try and do with the 1M - but I didn't get on the horse quickly enough, and couldn't get enough on the 135 on trade in to make it worth it. Not gonna have that problem this time.

I like owning motorcycles, but have never loved a car enough to do it - I think it will be different with this bad boy...

Rumors always seem to ask more questions than they answer. I think the big ones are whether this car gets the lightweight treatment like an M4, and what the tuning potential for the engine is without going to great expense.

I'm not worried about the looks. BMW will not disappoint. I agree the weight is much more of concern to me.

My wife will take hers in Imola/Imola and 6MT. 2017 seems like a long ways off though (she won't buy a first production year car).

I'd be surprised if the M2 gets the weight reduction the M3/4 has. Adds to the expense and helps performance, two things BMW may not want to do with the M2...unless they need the fuel economy numbers. A detuned M3/4 motor would be interesting as it'd be no time at all before the tuners had that taken care of...
