The new M2 CS is going to be probably 83k new which makes the gap even closer... If next year it's like 15-20k between one and the other it's gonna be a really tough choice. In this price range I can get used base Carrera 991.2 or older 911.1 CS here + some other weirdly configured 911's. I'm 30 and have no kids. When I'm older I'll take one but now after driving the GTI for 2 years I know I need a focused car, not something in the middle and I fear that M2 CS is not gonna do it. Probably the CSL would. |

I drove my M2 in the midst of a snowstorm with barely any other vehicles on the road. If this were possible in a GT4, I'd at least look into getting one and DDing it. And it's not just the initial $40-50k cost difference, people. Cost of ownership plays a huge financial role in Porsches. A simple oil change sets you back $375 in a base Cayman. I'm sure maintenance upkeep for GT car is nothing short of ridiculousness.

I also have a GT4 my second and forth 981. Totally different car pure sports/track car VS sports sedan . The M2 is a great driver use it as my daily driver on track it's like driving a bus compaired to my GT4 . If you could have one for everything go with the M2 it's fun handles well for a3500 lb car has some snap and practable. Carl

Cheers for all the nice comments. I wanted to post here as I love you all and I know you all love cars..
Polar opposites - yeah I could've used a better expression, I was meaning that they are on different ends if the spectrum but are both awesome cars. The M2 is still a fantastic motor, I just like the rawness of the GT4 hence why Im looking forward to a BMW CS. For the price the M2 is awesome. OK, pictures in the next post. |

This is a fun clip of a track prepped M2 staying on a GT3 quite nicely at Laguna Seca....
In the end it is all about enjoying these amazing machines, eh?

Gt4 is nifty, but really overpriced at sticker for a used car at $100-110k. A 2011 turbo is cheaper and much more exciting for the money. And I agree with others, comparing to a $55k car is basically silly. There are tons of interesting options for $100k.

I know, I own a carerra s. They are very reliable cars, albeit not cheap to do things like spark plugs. A cayman gt4 has a 991.1s engine, no special maintenance required. Congrats op, the cayman gt4 is phenomenal. And the 3.8 is a gem |

Personally I really do not like the turbo and in no way find it more exciting than a carerra s much less a gt car. Yeah it's fast but it sounds horrible, is heavy, doesn't handle nearly as well and understeers. If you are into power, it can be a great choice but it's not more exciting for many and I'd say most would say the gt4 is more exciting. Zero doubt an m2 is a great value, and good real world weekend car for someone with kids. I have a kid and the 911 (weekend car) is a pain in the ass with a small baby, but it's worth it. Life would be a lot easier in an m2. I owned a 1m and loved it, I'm sure the m2 is just as good. M2 cs will be interesting. Last edited by Black Gold; 10-14-2017 at 09:06 PM.. |

GT4’s are not depreciating. So driving one for a couple years, you will only be out insurance/fuel costs. Also the GT4 will have a factory warranty. Plus the GT4 is a better drivers car than a 2011 Turbo.

I'm thinking about picking up a 2014 GT3 this week, will have to keep current car w/2 child seats. Tired of waiting for the CS.
I will refrain from stating the obviousness of a 150k Porsche being better than a 60k bmw. I think it is known. |

I kinda looked into GT4's before the M2
My first gripe is that most for sale are being flipped by some cunt with waiting list connections at Porsche. Other than that, there's the fact that the GT4 holds no DD value... It's a track car. With an M2 you can go get groceries and pick-up your laundry, unnoticed and comfortably. What can you really do with a GT4 except track it? |

Wait at least another 6 months, 991.1 GT3 will see a drop in price. Owners will be trading in for the new 991.2 with the manual option.
