Only because of having more HP than BMW/M2 and going 0-60 faster? Not going around a track faster Audis are great in any way possible(not kidding) , but they just don't belong at a circuit. No way... Yeah an R8 V10 Plu$ but not bread and butter RS models. Cheers Robin |

Of course! Just like the M2ers often bad mouth the M235s (buick) and the M235 owners look down on the 228s and most all BMW owners look down on Japanese cars...etc. etc. etc.

In fact I'm far more critical of the F80/2 M cars, rather than looking down on anyone. They should offer more in terms of engagement and fun and look to the 235i as an example of what to do. The M235i is a good, honest fun car. Delivers everything it should and then some. The M2 is just all the good bits of the 235i turned up to 11. |

You could at least have used the nice renders. not till 2019...so they say. By then i'll have cams and a Corsa in my E36m345 and I'll just hang on to that...same size.

Collected my M2 today. What a machine! Anyway I was chatting to the sales rep and he said there may be a special model once the car gets an update, but that is still at least two years away.
Also he said it's very unlikely the M2 will see an S55 but rather a tweaked version of the N55. This is information is to be taken with a grain of salt, but seeing as nothing is confirmed by any source, I guess we shall wait and see what happens in the future. In the meantime, I am enjoying one hell of a machine!

Guys have some exciting news! According to my inside source at BMW he can confirm that there is S55 software being developed for the F87 for 2018. Whether this means a clubsport model or just a total switch to an S55 I cannot confirm. My guess is with the new M240i getting the B58 BMW will have to upgrade the base M2 engine but that's just a guess.

It's important to understand that there are still many possible outcomes. The most likely outcome is that the S55 appears in a new M2 model designated M2 CS, M2 CSL, or M2 GTS. Full stop.
All the chatter about an engine change in the base M2 is 100% speculation. Even the substantiation that S55 software is in development for the M2 provides no basis to support that the S55 would appear in the base M2. Considering the firm rumors we have about a special edition M2, it can only be said that this firms up the notion that the engine will be found in that new car. Again, any changes to the base M2 engine configuration are 100% speculation at this point.

+1 This seems the most likely scenario. The most interesting thing to me in this whole M2 CS/CSL/GTS rumor mill is the relatively short initial build cycle and limited availability for the M2. It still makes no sense to me that BMW has turned off so many potential buyers due to unavailability, dealer markups etc. If I could have ordered one and done ED like any other BMW I'd have ordered one by now. I also can't look at or test drive one since my local dealer (KC) doesn't have one. The announcement of the Audi RS3 saloon for the US market next year does lend some credence to at least a quick refresh/lci upgrade for the current M2. BMW knew this car was coming before we did and knows they have to keep pace. BMW is driven by marketing and sales much more than they are by the enthusiast market as we all know. I don't know how fun to drive the RS3 will be compared to the M2 but it's also intriguing to me because if I decide I only want to own one car it needs to me AWD. For me right now I'd mainly consider a 340i xdrive or the new RS3. While the RS3 might not give me more smiles as a daily than the M2, it might be more fun than the 3 series. |

BMW dealers don't like to offer ED to models when they are in high demand and under strict allocation. Believe it or not the M235i had a similar situation to the M2, when it was first released there were very few EDs and they had MSRP + prices. I bought mine just after they took the M235i off of strict allocation so I got ED and a big discount. I don't think BMW makes any money off of excess markups, I've read that the dealers buy the cars from BMW so it is the dealers that are to blame for excessive markups and they pocket the bounty. One of the reasons I bought a RWD BMW was for RWD. I've owned several Audi quattros, they are great solid cars. I think Audi interiors are the most solid in the industry, my Audi with 100,000 miles on it still had a solid interior with no creaks or rattles. If I were looking for AWD, I'd be giving the Audi some serious consideration, they stick to the road like super glue. I would not consider a 340x over an RS3, they both have 4 doors and I think the RS3 would be a lot more fun. I'm not a fan of the Audi 6 speed DCT transmission that the put in the S3, but I've read that the RS3 is getting the 7 speed DCT transmission which must be similar to the 7 speed DCT in the S4/S5. I drove an S4 with the 7 speed DCT and it was really a good transmission. Last edited by AlpsRider; 10-02-2016 at 12:32 PM.. |

Competitors having 400hp cars in the works is good news, because that will induce BMW to up the ante with the M2. During 1M launch (Spring 2011) the UK BMW website showed a table comparing the BMW 1M v. Audi TT RS Coupé v. Porsche Cayman S. For comparo test drives back in those days, journalists noticed that Porsche systematically provided the better performing (and more expensive) Cayman R instead of the Cayman S (see also for example here). Needless to say that the Cayman S was no match for the 1M.
