Good for us guys that want strippers though
True, true.... especially a loaded m235i/240i. Approximately 80% of m235i coupes on dealer lots at this very moment are stickered above $50k. Who wouldn't rather have a stripper m2 for the same money? I know I would.

If this pricing is legit, the only way the m235i coupe might make sense is if you can do a discounted, lightly-optioned ED car for around $40k. Otherwise, there's just not enough room between the two to NOT go with the m2... especially when the m2 is more likely to retain its value.

So now that we are narrowing in on the price and launch. What's the chance of 1/M prices dropping now or is that limited edition gonna keep em high?

Currently only 3/21 listings for the 1/M on autotrader are below that $51K lol. The cheapest is listed at $47K with 49K miles on it.

I think it'll drop a little bit, but it'll still be expensive, especially compared to a brand new M2 with a warranty.

Still very collectible obviously

OMG this post is right on the money. I bought my new m235 in august for 40k...its a stripper with only heated seats and the 8sp auto...but its rear wheel drive wit the michiellen pilot ss on it. It did have 200 miles on it but its new and 40k you cant beat it. IT WAS A FAILED EURO DELIVERY. THE BUYER DIDNT WANT IT. IT was listed for 45k but I talked them to 40k. I think a new m235 at 40k is pretty tough to beat. BTW a dogde challenger srt wanted to race w me. I had a full front seat of groceries f wegmans in the car. We went at it and I pretty smoked him like he was standing still but all my groceries went everywhere lol. Its a great car for the $. Im loving the details and looks of the M2 but the $ diff is just too great. My dream car, being 50 yrs old, no kids and a homicide detective is the cayman gts.

My guess is that in Canada it will still be pretty close to about $70,000 CDN for a fully loaded M2.

Like I've said repeatedly, I think that the M2 will fill the BMW M car niche that the 1M currently occupies and displace it in the near term. The 1M's high resale prices will no longer be justifiable to the public in light of the M2's similar virtues, relative low cost and higher performance while attainable brand new under factory warranty and with free maintenance.

The 1M will adjust into the low $40's/high $30's in the next couple of years. In the much longer term its resale value will undoubtedly rise again because of its limited production collectibility status.

Perfect price point. Less than $10k above the M235i, which is what made perfect sense to me.

Based on the rumored 54k euro german price I was expecting this, given the history of price deltas. Keeping it under $56k WITH DCT will be one key to my decision.

The next two keys will be:
A. If I can get one for Euro Delivery (#1 at one dealer, #2 at another but #1 says no go on ED) in the June/July timeframe.
B. If it leases well enough to be better month to month vs a F80 with DCT.

If either of those are a no, I may have to pull the trigger on something else, since kids are likely on the way in the next 24 months.

I wished it was that price over here in the Uk when it comes out. That equates to around £33k. No chance I'd say more like £43k

Adem: fair play to you for predicting the MSRP. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Now just need to see what the standard feature list looks like...

I agree to disagree. You are confusing the 1M for a 328

My thoughts exactly. My m235i was 51k, why would someone not reach for the m2??

Well, no one is going to argue against a low price. That said, as was mentioned above, it is hard to imagine anyone ordering a M235/240i with a base price of $45K...The next few days should be interesting.

Agreed. I was doing a bit of reading to see any differentiators or a reason to not spend the additional cash for the M2 but I couldn't find any. I guess if people decide to go for the M2 over the M235i, it's better for BMW but Mercedes indirectly screwed BMW here. The CLA only has the CLA250 and and CLA45, obviously the difference is huge both mechanically and price (15k difference?). The 2-Series has 228i, M235i and now M2 with the price within the same range.

Oh... my... God.
I expected a loaded DCT to be around 59k, and prepping myself for it.
If this is true, I'll be happier than a pig in shit.
