I'm annoyed about it as an '18 owner. Just as 330 owners were annoyed. Just as WRX owners were annoyed before the 265. It's not ethical to do this to your consumer base. Everyone expects moderate changes, and bigger ones at the LCI. Everything else is rumor. A brand new engine, seats, gauges, mirrors, bumper, is unprecedented in BMW's history following an LCI. I don't see how this is eluding people in this thread. Am I taking crazy pills?

Hey maybe we'll get an S58 M2 in two more years!
We knew when there were reports of M2s with S55s being tested. We knew when we saw the M2s being tested, and vids of them with different exhaust canisters, and different sounding exhaust notes, as well as larger brakes.
Those who pay attention and weren't in denial knew what was up. This is just like the Corvette people now, who are still in denial that a mid-engine corvette is coming, and that it may cost a lot more than they have spent on Corvettes in the past.

This whole thing is simply about Sour Grapes. When you break it down, that is what amounts to. And as was state the engine change was known to BMW and to those who paid attention. I believe it has been posted here before.

IIRC after the LCI for the M3/M4 (and the Comp came out) the M4 CS came out, and then the M3 version of that came out. So, a higher performance model coming out after the LCI, is not without precedent.

Nonsense. BMW tests things all the time such as MT on the M3 CS. Means little for implementation. If they didn't do it at the major LCI there is very little chance--traditionally--that you'd see those changes implemented. I am not sure what else to tell you. Nobody is in denial. We are surprised that BMW did something un-BMW.

F80 is sunsetting early as well, due to these same rule implementations.
Can't wait the M2 comp purchasers who called everyone butthurt sour grapes to be butthurt sour grapes when the S58 M2 comes out.

Seriously though I'm stirring the pot. In the end this news doesn't bother me in the least. Very happy with my M2 and more than happy to skip this detuned S55 powered version with its kia grille. But hey if you were the ultimate omnipotent mind reader and for some reason had extreme self control and waited to buy your car since 2016; congratulations. Have fun!

You should actually be thankful to BMW because the current M2 design is superior to the M2 Competition in every way except for the M mirrors. It may perform slightly better but we still don’t know how that extra weight over the front of the car will affect the handling of the car.On top of that it will have that brutal sounding exhaust note.Just enjoy your car.The car looks great and is a blast to drive.

I love how many of the current M2 owners (and some non-owners) are harping on one of the most insignificant things about the M2 Comp... the freakin' grill. Shows you they are struggling to find a true weakness of the new car. (ok, maybe the weight)

As a neutral observer (for now), the M2 Comp looks great to me, and better than the outgoing M2, which is still a great looking car in its own right.

My last three cars were a GT4, E46 M3, and a 2000 M Roadster, cars I consider pretty good looking. I think the M2 Competition is also a looker as well...

I will probably trade in and get that car. Bad logic.

None of those other M cars featured a new engine, and the community didn't think the base M2 would be replaced with an S55 until someone found the end of production sheet for the N55. I was here, I remember people were shocked when the EOP date for the N55 was found. People were not going oh yea of course everyone knew that already when the EOP was found. It wasn't even that long ago.

Wasn't M2 7:58? 7:30ish is a lot more than "marginally better." That also puts it in Ferrari 458 / Porsche GT3 territory, which I highly doubt.

M3 CS did it in 7:38 on R-comp Cup 2 tires. I don't think a detuned M2C weighing as much as an M3/M4 can get into 7:3x either.

2018 GT3 officially lapped “The Ring” at 7:12

Porsche is not afraid of progress and their owners are not afraid of progress.

If the M2C is in the 7:3x bracket, the supercar slayer eras of the E30, E36 and E46 are indeed back.

You fell in love. You got married. A more sexy woman that you have a chance with shows up in your life. Do you regret your decision to marry your wife and be miserable for the rest of your life? Do you remind yourself why you fell in love in the first place and enjoy your life with her? Or do you divorce your wife and run after the new woman?

Whatever M2C does with ring, BMW will tell you a time at the 7:40-7:50 range. It's all about marketing.

Speaking of ring times, on April 16th, Porsche took the 2019 GT3RS to the 'Ring to see how fast it could run a lap. The result was a 6:56.40, which is 24 seconds faster than the pre-refresh 991 GT3 RS. It also happens to be about 1 second faster than the 918 Spyder hypercar.
I want one.

By the way, I have the same dilemma, only my car arrives at the dealer Monday. The timing of this really sucks and took the wind out of my sails at the last moment. I was extremely excited to get an allocation and tracked the damn thing for the last few months, only to find out now there are 10 sitting at dealers around me, and I never had to order one in the first place. I want the new one, but I don't think I can wait that long. I don't give a shit how much it is. I need a car NOW.

What to do, what to do...?
