LIDAR detection gets you fuck-all anyway. About 95% of the time, if you get hit by LIDAR, the police have your speed. It doesn't "bounce" the same way radar does, so your chances of picking up LIDAR when a different car is being targeted are pretty low.
If a car in front or next to and in front of you gets shot, you might pick up a stray edge of the beam, but it will depend on distance from the LEO. You'll still have to suffer from the thing going off at other cars' laser cruise systems and flickering LEDs and other garbage. I have LIDAR turned off entirely on my V1... but I also use a dedicated lidar jammer.

Moving it to the center of the windshield just below the mirror seems to have fixed it.. At least for now.. Will respond back if this 'fix' has no legs.

Once you set the V1 up with the custom settings, Vortex shows it has better performance than the Escort. Just takes some tweaking. |

Just got the V1, no issues in the M2 and its mounted right near the rear view mirror.
Interesting, months ago I had the Escort 9500 for a couple weeks and it wouldn't stop giving me false alarms (I'd keep locking them out via GPS). I heard the V1 is worse when it comes to false alarms, but so far it is pretty quiet. I like it. Are there any settings out there for better performance? |

Also, the new V!s are different from my legacy V1 from 18 years ago.. You have Junk-K fighter technology.. I dont.. so the behaviors really arent comprarable

Making progress on laser falsing in M2 ... sort of
My V1 is as old as you can get and still have the Junk Fighter installed. It's been used in a variety of cars and only gives a false rear laser alert in the M2. It happens any time and all the time - it doesn't matter if the ignition is on or off, if the key fob is in the car or far away, or even if it's running on the M2's power or a 12-volt source 10 feet from the M2.
In my M2, the Rear Laser Sensor "sees" anything up to 12 inches or so - your hand when you want to adjust the volume or mute it, a piece of paper, your cold dog's nose, or even the back of the control display or the rearview mirror. The solution? Put a piece of black electrical tape over the round, 1/4-inch Rear Laser Sensor between the Bogey Counter and the Band Identifier Lights. That's it - problem solved - but of course you lose the functionality of rear laser detection, which is minimally useful anyway. I suspect the V1 is picking up some type of electromagnetic interference from the center of the dash of the M2. If you ran a piece of tape from the lower outside corners of the climate control unit, up over the rearview mirror and to the windshield, you'd define the area where the interference is greatest - but it can false outside of that area too. Some BMWs are known to Valentine as being susceptible to OBD II-related interference (like several other cars) but I don't know if that has anything to do with this issue. I'm going to call Valentine this week. |

The false alert when you were backing up maybe didn't have anything to do with the garage door - instead, reaching for the button on the bottom of the mirror might have put your hand into range of the rear laser sensor. The next time you drive your M2, try changing the volume control or waving your hand an inch or so from the display side of the V1 to see if the laser alert goes off.
Today, every time I got a legit alert and punched the volume control to mute it, the laser warning went off. It didn't happen once after I taped over the Rear Laser Sensor. |

I spent a long time on the phone today with the tech department at Valentine One. The short answer to the problem of laser falsing in the M2 is that this is a new mystery for them and that there is no better solution to cure it than taping over the Rear Laser Sensor. Based on the testing I did with various power sources and combinations of ignition on/off, the assumption is that the V1 is detecting something optically - not electromagnetically - from either an infrared or an LED source.
The best guess is the infrared rain sensor in front of the rearview mirror is producing enough optical scatter that in some situations the V1 is detecting it; this has been a complaint for other BMWs with this rain-sensing system. (I haven't pulled the fuse on the rain sensor to test this.) It also could be that the V1 is detecting random light scatter from another source in the interior; for example, the temperature sensor for the HVAC system on the dash is infrared, but covering it up didn't stop the warnings. There are also several LEDs scattered around the interior, but covering them didn't help stop the falsing. The final possibility is the alarm system; OBD-controlled alarm systems in other BMWs are a known cause of false alarms for the V1. FYI, the M2 doesn't have this issue, but the current 7 Series and the new 5 Series include gesture recognition as part of the iDrive system, which is known to cause false alarms in the V1. For example, waving your hand in front of the control screen can reflect enough light or mounting the V1 so its sensors have a direct line of sight to the screen can set off the V1. An Android phone that responds to hand gestures also can cause the V1 to false. Interestingly, if you point your V1 to the back of the car, sometimes either the front laser alert or both front and rear laser alerts go off. I have not had any problems with the front laser alert going off when it should when the unit is mounted to the windshield. So, the bottom line for now is that a 1/4-inch square of black electrical tape on the Rear Laser Sensor is your best friend. |

Interesting work, Spa. For me, I think the only time I get laser falsing now is when I reach up to press the first button under the mirror to open or close the garage door.. And now that I moved it slightly to the right so my finger is out of range with the rear Laser sensor, I dont even get that anymore.
Apparently you are experiencing laser falsing provoked in other ways than a wayward finger in front of the sensor.. Curious as to how Unidens or Escorts would behave compared to your V1 in comparable surroundings.

Or what Spa2k found... Spa, do you have Exec package as well? The IR in the rainsensor should be pretty low powered I'd think, but I would expect much higher powered IR in use for the camera, assuming it actually uses any. IMO you're better off just shutting of LIDAR detection entirely (on a window-mount unit). If a LIDAR-using cop wants your speed, they are going to get it before you know it. Gotta jam LIDAR.

Well I attempted to install my fairly new updated V1, blend mount and wiretap in my '18 LCI and all fit wonderfully. When I fired it up the thing goes into full alert mode. If i move it away from the rearview mirror pod it shuts off. When I move it near the pod again it sets it off. So I wonder what has changed in the new LCI's that is setting it off. Either way it will not work mounted close to the mirror pod
It worked perfectly in my '15 M4 exact pkg Guess i will throw it up for sale on the forums |

I just bought a blendmount, and I already have a V1, but I might be interested in your mirrortap if it is the one sold by the Blendmount people...
