Anyone here get a ticket from a law enforcement officer yet? I've been stopped several times in my M2 and I was recently ticketed. Not for speeding, but for no front license plate. Not to worry - I'm fighting this in court. In the meantime, has anyone else been stopped and ticketed?

Millwork tow hook mount. I've tried several and this one is innovative and really well made.
Not worth attracting unwanted attention without a plate. I'd rather not give them a SECOND reason to pull me over, if you know what I mean.

Driving is a regulated item. Mount your plate and save the time wasted on lectures that not need be given. I find all the 'front plate' angst entertaining. Im happy to keep mine on as required to enjoy my car.

So here's the long story: I have a STO N SHOW under bumper removable license plate holder. Unfortunately I only used the double faced tape to mount it and one time I did not remove the front license plate before I went went into a car wash and unknown to me at the time it got ripped off. It took me about a week to discover that I lost the plate and then another couple of days to get back to the car wash to get it back and then another week or so to get the install parts from STO N SHOW. It was during this time that I was stopped and ticketed for no front license plate. The officer did not care about my story and he claimed that I was just trying to look cool. And yeah, I get it - I was in violation of the law for no front plate, but I do think the extenuating circumstances warrant a pass on this. Not for nothing, we'll see what the judge says.

I had the STO N SHOW and had no issues with car washes. Did you use the adhesion promoter before sticking it on? It almost doubles the adhesion.

Yes I used that but I did NOT use the under bumper screw. I now use both the double faced tape and the screw with no issues. The STO N SHOW is a great piece and it works well if used properly.

Strange, I had no issues with just the tape and the adhesion promoter. Sorry you had issues.

I'm thinking this is only an issue in the USA, if not, then maybe in Canada also. Some car owners (not unique to BMW) seem to think that having a front license plate on their car "defaces" it. Some will go to all sorts of lengths to avoid mounting this plate. In some cases they use brackets that make no holes in the front bumper, and in others they simply don't mount the plate.

Now it is a fact that there are a few US states where the front plate is not required by law to be mounted; most states do however require this.

I have never understood this fetish about mounting the provided/model specific plate holder on the front bumper, even when it requires a 2 or 4 small holes to be made. We all like to keep our cars looking good, to the extent possible. But unless your car lives its entire life in a garage or in a museum, and it is driven, those tiny holes in the front bumper will be the least of the cosmetic damage present after a year or two of ownership.

Most or all US states allow license plates to be personalized, plus there are usually numerous plate designs available. Instead of obsessing about tiny holes in a plastic bumper, why not make a statement with your license plate wording, and turn your front plate into an advantage and not something to hide?

Mike

(bought car, mounted front plate at dealership, been there with M3 back in 1997 in New Hampshire, if you have a Corvette or a Snow Plow on your Pickup, no front plate needed)

Rich, on what grounds are you fighting it? How much was the fine? Ive gone plateless here in Ct for 10 years without a ticket; just lucky I guess. Think I may cave one of these days, probably after I get a ticket!

I appreciate your opinion and your assistance. While you are on the side of the road explaining your particular circumstances to the officer, there is one less officer on the road that I have to worry about monitoring my speed.

Thanks!

While in all my years of driving I have never been pulled over for no front plate, I have to simply say, you're welcome!

I'm sure this depends on the state, and the particular officer. I do know people who have been pulled over and ticketed for this in my own state.

I'd much rather have something that is amusing (or at least amuses me) on my license plates, than give 2 minutes thought to the possibility that I might get pulled over for this reason. When it happens, if it does, it's going to be entirely random. Most of the time, when I get in my car, I have something to do and some sort of time schedule I'm trying to meet. Getting pulled over just doesn't fit into these schedules, and I have already met as many officers up close and personal as I care to for the remainder of my life, however long that turns out to be.

I am really nice when I am pulled over and I guess I don't drive enough or am just extremely blessed when behind the wheel. I also keep a very tight timeline, and I still refuse to mount a front plate to any car of mine. I do take Uber a lot so that removes a ton of risk just the same.

Uber is especially good for avoiding the odd DUI :-)

Yes indeed.

I come home Friday night, have a few drinks...

Call Uber, go out on the town, and have a few more drinks.

Parking at the airport. They ticket missing plates. 1st one is $100, second is $300 and a tow warning, then they just tow you.
