Stock Wheels and Curb Rash
Just ordered a 18' M2. Looking at the stock rims makes me shudder. I can not imagine how you can repair them if (and you will) scrape them.
I am super careful with my present MINI JCW and I have to fix my rims at the end of each season - The price of low profile tires! I have become an expert in repairs - so easy and quick if you have the paint color. So my question is can you order different wheels - ones that look good but you can repair -no actual exposed metal and with metallic paint? Will the dealers exchange? Any recommendations? |

https://www.getbmwparts.com/partloca...catalogid=4462 I've had two of my stock rims repaired successfully after some curb rash. It's definitely possible regardless of what people on here say about the difficulty in matching the paint. Last edited by AndrewC1989; 12-13-2017 at 05:01 PM.. |

All of the pro wheel paint and repair shops say while it's possible to get it close, it's impossible to get it to match 100%.
The problem is that the original face is machined then painted with a lightly dark tinted clear coat. The fill and resurface is easy, the hard part is the tinted clear coat. Since it's a "clear" coat and not a color, it would be almost impossible to match. It will look fine by itself, but when compared closely with the original wheel side by side you will notice a difference. |

I hear you.....and to just paint all those surfaces a color that is similar and not translucent would be a real pain to mask off. Liking not worth getting those wheels then. They do look good though....but then so do black cars...when you first pick them up.
