Unequivocally, I agree with you. Especially the last point. Driver's kits are different, but a flashlight should be in every one of them. Sometimes I've had to do my own car repairs on the road, because I couldn't go to a car service. A quart of motor oil in the trunk. During long stop lights, I'll engage the oil level test and if it's less than full, add a half a quart at the next fuel stop. My engine does not burn any oil but I'm careful to avoid overfilling during oil changes, and sometimes I'll undershoot.

+1 on the small bottle of water and a rag. Bird poop will damage paint if left on too long.

For long trips, I'll carry a spare tire, jack, cordless impact wrench, roadside flares, rubber gloves, head lamp, and knee pads. Sure we have BMW road side assistance, but I'd rather not waste hours waiting for repairs.
