Anybody try Bridgestone tires?

Was curious if anyone's tried either the Bridgestone RE-71Rs or RE-11s on their ///M2?

Thanks!

Yep, they work great as a track tire. Looks like I'll be able to get maybe 6 events out of a set.

They suck as a street tire. They're loud.

Thank you both for the feedback.

The ///M2 is my daily driver but my commute one way is only 5 miles so we'll see. Thanks again.

I see you’re in DC. You will absolutely hate driving the 71R in town. The sidewall is quite a bit stiffer than the Michelin’s or Conti’s.

Even when I’m in a track state of mind, I find them barely tolerable to drive to Summit Point and back.

And forget about them for weekend fun drives. Way too loud & stiff.

Just my opinion....

Edit: I see you’re in OC, not DC. Well, my comments still apply.

Thx. I've also got JRZ coilovers so I'll have to evaluate this carefully.

Agree with what everyone else has said so far.

The RE-71Rs are great for the track! They have great all-around grip, even in the wet. They do wear faster than most tires although that is to be expected. The tire is very noisy and when the temp drops get flat-spots. Not a good street tire, especially in the cool or cold weather. They do require heat before being pushed.

I’m placing an order to get discount tires Black Friday gift cards. Going to street drive and autocross them. Hoping they will last a year and maybe 6000 miles

As everyone else has said they are terrible for the street. Had them on my last car. I vividly recall driving around and around in my local parking garage when it was in the upper 30s and wet. Just turning those tight parking garage corners at about 5 MPH on cold wet tires caused them to slip and the car to plow. Crazy. Loss of control at 5 MPH. It was like I was on ice.

Also agree on the noise. Super loud.

They are Extreme Performance Summer tires. they're not gonna work for crap below 45F or so. Hell, even the Michelin or Conti stock tires are not recommended to be run below those temps.

The downsides to the RE71 (you don't want the RE11, they are "last year's model" now) are the noise, shortened treadlife vs. the stock tires, and they won't do as well in rain/standing water.

The rain issue is what I'd be most worried about.

OTOH, they will grip like shit to a blanket in the dry.

Yeah, I missed my bus into downtown and had an early morning meeting. No choice but to drive. Didn't even have time to wait for an Uber. Live and learn.

That being said, they did OK on wet pavement in those low temps. A little sketchy but manageable. It wants till I hit that parking garage with smooth concrete and painted lines everywhere that things let loose.

Can't believe RE71R, the king of summer tire for years got bashed like this here.

Those people do need to know a little more about extreme performance summer category.

I don’t think anyone bashed it, just told it like it is.

The RE71R is a pointlessly loud, harsh, and obnoxious tire for the street, where you rarely need more dry grip than a 4S, and the Michelin is much safer in the rain and lower temps.

However, the RE71R is a killer tire for the track. Good longevity for the amount of dry grip you get, more grip in light rain than the 4S, but can get a little sketchy in heavy rain.

I don't think it's just me, PSS/PS4s in stock size are not good enough at dry for stock m2 power. RE71R makes day and night difference, Michelins look like jokes in comparison.

I’d agree with that. I’m running 265/285 4S’s on the OEM wheels, which added quite a bit of grip.

Were you able to fit 265/285-19 RE-71r on the stock wheels without spacers anywhere? I did 255/275 all-seasons today, and just can't imagine squeezing any more, particularly under the high suspension loading of track and autocross. Would love to hear if you had any rubbing. This is the clearance I had with 255/35 up front:

Thanks. So it does appear that 255/275-35 is the largest people can go on the stock wheels with stock suspension without having to make some kind of compromise, even if it's small.

You can go up to 265/35 and 285/35 (w/RE-71-Rs and MPS4Ss) on OEM wheels and stock suspension. Now, the fronts did rub the body work under max compression on the track. I went down to 255/35 and have no rubbing issues. The rear at 285/35 is fine. I have seen up to 305/30 in the rear on OEM wheels although do not recommend it.
