...now I send what I can to BMW...it's all I can afford, but BMW has sent me an M2...there's nothing left for luxuries, nothing left to pay my heating bill... But the M2 will provide, I know it will...the ticket to heaven...and I got a ride all the way to paradise...

With all screens and functions | In sync lock with Tripstar | This cool rolling bubble | Is all set to samba | This route could be trouble | This route could be trouble | Steamin' up | That Trans-Island Skyway | Tryin' to make that final deadline | And if the lanes are clear | We're gonna drive a little harder | We'll be deep in the Zone by cryin' time

I remember when Aja was released. There was nothing else like it at the time. Wore the grooves off my first copy, this one is fairly mint though.

I lost count how many times I played "Aja" and "Gaucho" tracks (SD) and "The Nightfly" (DF). Also went to see SD live over here twice.

Connoisseur, I salute you.

After having spent the weekend getting to know my new M2 - I found myself finding any opportunity I could to take the long way home. So this one now feels very apropos...

(and given the apparent presence of Knopfler fans here (of which I am one), there oughta be some Cale fans here as well ...)

Thanks for that one. Sounds like you're enjoying the new ride then?

Shall we start from the beginning

Yes - killer debut (Dire Straits) - I remember when that album came out - hearing it in a record store - I thought JJ Cale was producing and playing lead behind Lou Reed or Dylan or something - couldn't believe my ears - sounded so good - especially given what was popular at the time. Been a mega-admirer ever since.

And yeah - enjoying the hell out of the new ride! Too soon to tell really - but it might - just might - be more fun than the Z4M Coupe. I will reserve judgment on that until I've had the M2 for at least a couple of months - but it's a keeper that's for sure! Soooo different than the M235i - no comparison

So at the risk of hi-jacking this thread - Knopfler's touch is what makes his playing so brilliant - and his songwriting is equally unbelievable - this one blows me away on both fronts. Kills me how he can keep that groove, remember all the words, and improvise the magic (at 4:50). Truly one of the greats - apologies for the pseudo hi-jack - but passions are passions ...

No apology required here at all, please keep em coming. Really enjoyed that session....I have the Shangri-La studio version on disc. Nice to see some passion....music and cars always went together for me, the ultimate time capsule. Do yourself a favor and pick up this release, you won't regret it.

Got it the day it was released. I think I own every note Knopfler ever officially released (including things like the Comfort & Joy soundtrack and that Mink DeVille record he produced). When I obsess, I go all in. Same with JJ Cale. Best not to get me started ...

Nice to find shared passions

Never have enough Knopfler's...Dire Straits got nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year. They are currently ranked No.3 in voting, behind Bon Jovi and Moody Blues...
