DCT Newbie Question

My driveway is sloping down from the garage. Say I want to go into the house to grab something. With the DCT in Neutral and hand brake pulled, the car still rolls with foot off the brake. How to put the car in "Park" to lock the wheels without turning the car off? TIA

You can't, get your parking brake adjusted.

No need for Park. The car will be waiting for you at the bottom of the driveway.

Mine doesn't roll on a hill with hand break pulled up. I often times put it in neutral and release the brake until it rests on the handbrake, then I put it in gear, then finally turn it off until it goes into park. Seems like it's better than just letting it roll hard onto the parking brake.

How steep is your driveway? My handbrake will hold the car in natural so I'm thinking you need to have it look at.

I have the same issue, for my handbrake to work I really have to yank it up as high as possible. It doesn't have the same engagement point as any other car I've driven has. I told the dealership of my issue with it during the break in service, they said it was normal.

Thankfully there aren't too many situations where I have to worry about my car rolling back so I haven't been too worried about fixing it.

Good luck with your issue op.

That is not normal. Needs adjusting.

Thank y'all. The handbrake does need to be pulled all the way up to engage. It does stop the rolling if the car is put in neutral at a slope. Still don't feel comfortable with that though. It would probably safer just turn the car off so all the wheels are locked in P.

The DCT is basically a manual transmission. From what I can tell, turning the car off causes the DCT to shift into gear. You should have your handbrake adjusted, because constantly rolling back onto the gear isn't great for the transmission, just like it isn't good in an MT.

X 1000 get your handbrake checked out. Also as someone whose driveway has a significant slope, god help you if you don’t wait for DCT to engage a gear before letting off the brakes to hit the gas. It’s a quirk, but you will legit end up in someone’s yard if the car isn’t warmed up.
