AST 3-way on M2

Hello all,

I have a 2018 M2. Since purchase, I have put some AST 3-way suspension on the car. It is my first time with AST/Moton and I can say I have been blown away. I had KW Clubsports on my e92 track car and I currently have KW V3 on my e46 streen/canyon car. I must first say that any of those are really great choices if you are looking for an upgrade. However, I don't think any suspension I have driven on has transformed a car like the AST did. The m2 out of the box is a great car but I felt like the turn in, predictability, and even the comfort were vastly improved over the stock setup. I haven't had a chance to push the car on the track yet due to weather but I would guess that I would gain 3-5 seconds over the stock setup on what would probably be a 2:00 lap.
I don't work, nor am I sponsored by for KW or AST/Moton. I'm just a car enthusiast that wanted to share his experience and give a thumbs up to a great company.

Hey mate,

Can you have the car lowered and have a better ride quality than standard? Is it easy to adjust? What springs rates did you get?

Where did you buy it from? What does it cost ?

I had the same thing on my MINI and my M2 Competition goes on AST as well!

Car is lowered and definitely rides better.
I can't find the receipt right now but I'll keep looking. I got through AST website It was ~5k I think.

Here in the UK, Litchfields is a tuner - with a great rep - and Autocar is weekly car mag - they like the m2 a lot - that clearly loved the Litchfields M2 with AST c/overs....

That's pretty cool. I really agree with them on the:
"Body control is also massively improved, meaning you feel so much more confident now that the car will keep its mass in check as the road crests and falls. Litchfield’s (AST) suspension upgrades are transformative."
&
"Whereas some performance cars jab at a spike at your kidneys as their body skips and hops over bumps, the Litchfield M2 is fluid and composed"

Also, "Lichfield BMW" only uses the 2-way suspension. I believe this is because they are building more of a road car. My intent on buying the 3-way is to build a track weapon. I am sure for street use, the 2-way is more than enough. You can always upgrade your 2-way to 3-way later through AST.

I was wondering if you could share some pictures of where the reservoirs are mounted, especially in the rear.

I realize its not quite track season yet, but have you done anything with the settings yet? are you running ASTs suggested start points?

I am seriously considering an AST setup on my car as well. Thanks for sharing!

I am still playing with the rear mounting. I haven't figured out where their long term position will be.

AST asked me the tracks I plan on running and any mods. Then they sent the suspension tuned to best fit what I was going to be driving on. I might eventually tune it a bit but I feel like they have me dialed in right out of the box.

AST/Moton make great stuff. The true coilover conversion in the rear helps take advantage of proper spring rate as well!

Does AST need to be rebuild a lot? Like with Intrax suspensions and so on?

AST/Moton hold up very well. You won't be needing frequent rebuilds from all the people I've talked to who have put on way more miles than I have.

Finally have mine installed. Swapped the stock AST 687 lbs/in springs in front for Eibach 515 lbs/in springs and its still crazy stiff. The rears stock 515 lbs/in down to 350 lbs/in and it seems acceptable.
I feel bad abusing them as daily drivers so I am going to get some spring/shock covers to protect them from the elements.

I wanted them also...but they are not approved in my country (Belgium)... Every mod needs approval papers in my country and AST suspension does not have them

Are the AST 5200 2 Way also that stiff?
I wanted to try the Litchfield setup on mine for DD and tracking, wonder what spring rates they used there as it seemed perfect for such duty.

5200 and 5300 are basically the same, with the addition of low speed compression adjustment on the 5300. 5200s are easily upgraded to 5300 specs by swapping reservoirs.

In stock specs from AST they are track specific with very stiff springs. I am sure you could spec them with different rate when ordering (picked mine up used). I imagine Litchfield has some custom rate to compramise between track and daily.

The twitchy/bouncy rear end has gone and the turn in is much improved! Litchfield developed them exclusively with AST.
Thanks for the info.
Did you mean 5200s or are 5100s also 2 way adjustable? If 5100s are two way than these might be enough for me.
I'll e-mail litchfield for the price with shipping of their complete setup as I'm outside UK.

I've read the reviews online on this suspension by Litchfield & AST.

However, are the shocks on the 5100s re-valved by AST according to Litchfield's specs.

Thats it.
1-way only rebound forces (like a KW V2)

2-way means adjustable in Rebound and compression forces (like KW V3, KW C2 2-way)

3-way rebound and lowspeed / Highspeed compression forces (like KW V4, KW CS 3-way)

4-way Lowspeed / Highspeed rebound & Lowspeed / Highspeed compression forces (KW racing shocks).

Some fanzy brands are also writing trillion-ways adjustable and counting every click variation you can dial in your dampers. In this logic a KW 3-way Clubsport Kit for the M2 would be 1344-way adjustable or 36-way adjustable ...
