Adaptive headlights

Can someone please help explain how to access the Xenon bulbs on the adaptive headlight unit?

Thanks

My understand is you don't. If the bulb goes it's a whole new unit

I can see picture 5 in the engine bay, but it inaccessible by hands, I'm guessing you need to remove the entire headlight unit, which I'm not quite sure how to do. I want a white xenon look.

Hmm, hard to believe based upon regional laws, e.g., France, but who knows?

Agreed... I was at my dealer looking to buy a bulb kit for a trip to France and was told by the parts guy that the bulbs in the adaptive headlights are not serviceable... he claimed I would need to buy a whole new unit

Yep, same thing for Audi.

250 miles after warranty ended on the A4, xenon bulb went out... $300 fix to replace whole unit, not possible to swap bulb or smaller part of unit.

Nonsense - You can change the bulb. I did it on my e92 M3. You go through the wheel well.

Maybe these guys are talking about the LED headlights being non-serviceable.

The M2 and the e92 M3 even use the same bulb part number. It's just darn near impossible to get too.

I looked through the wheel well and I couldn't see how you could get at the xenon cover.

From the engine bay I can see the xenon cover cap but can't get my hands near it.

How does the headlight unit come out?

Looks like the F87 uses a new design for the cover. Its round - look for that.

Did you take out the entire wheel well lining?

Nah, I just took off the square cover, but that only gives access to the side bulbs.

The bulb process will be the same as pretty much any xenon bulbed headlight assembly. You can find several DIYs on the 3 series boards that will tell you how to do this. I changed them on E90 3 series, not a big deal. Of course if they haven't failed there is no reason to mess with them.

You will either need to remove the whole fender liner or remove the bumper cover to remove the headlight.
