Black wheels and rust from rotors

After washing the car the rotors get a film of rust. This I expect. What I'd love to be able to do is eliminate the rusty spray out onto the inside of clean black wheels during the first after-wash drive. Has anyone found a solution for this problem?

There are some products you can buy that I haven't yet tried but you're supposed to spray the rotors after washing and it will prevent rusting.

I've tried drying the wheels immediately with my Vac'n'Blo but that doesn't work all that great and adds a significant amount of time to your car washing.

Best solution I've come up with is to take it for a quick spin immediately after washing/before drying and apply the brakes and ebrake briefly while cruising at a slow pace.

I drive the car just enough while hitting the brakes to clean off rust then wipe down the wheels with rinseless wash. Hydes Rust Stopper works ok but I worry about it dripping on the wheels.

Thanks for the replies. I never really noticed this problem until I got the M2. I guess the silver/painted wheels I've had in the past on other cars didn't show it as well.

Try Hyde's rust stopper. This along with using a leaf blower helps me with rust from developing.

This problem is literally driving me insane!
Its not so much the rust forming on the discs, its more the water getting trapped inside the rotors and then whizzing out all over the fresh black rim inside. Ive tried all methods, like above even including my airforce one mini-dryer vac.....but as suggested, best is to take it for a quick pre-spin before the dry down - applying both h/brake and foot pedal. Even then, there's still orange rusty drips that form next day whilst car is still standing.

Solution: upgrade brakes to ceramics!

Here's how I do it. Takes me about 90 minutes start to finish.
1. wash car while avoiding directly spraying wheels
2. Dry Car
3. using low water pressure Wash wheel & tire (wash rotor if I see rust)
4. Dry wheel w/ blower
5. Dry any over spray on car
6. repeat #3-6 for each wheel.

Has anyone tried a zinc plating/coating? It would require removing the rotors, removing the rust and applying the zinc coating... I'd think it's about protecting the edges and internals of the rotors to avoid rust. I had this done on prior non BMW rotors and was happy with the result. Obviously, this makes more sense if you are replacing the rotors. Ceramic would be great if it wasn't so damn expensive!

Or just paint what you can get to. My hubs were already bleeding rust at 500 miles.

I use a MetroVac to dry my entire car...especially the wheels.

It is a high powered air dryer that shoots warm filtered air to dry the car.

It was made by a friend of mine in the NY area Porsche Club. Check out https://metrovacworld.com/catalog/Auto

I use my electric leaf blower. Takes maybe 30 seconds per wheel to get all that water out. Works perfectly. I also use it to blow out the gap between the side mirrors and the housings as they tend to dribble water out for what seems like days after a wash.
