First Track Event @ Sebring and M2 thoughts..
Hey guys! Just came back from Sebring and had a EPIC weekend. It was my first track experience and man it was fantastic. First off -- hats off to Chinmotorsports. Very professional, very safe day, and had 2 hours of classroom time. My brother is a instructor and he taught me all day so I knew I was in good hands.
M2 - street roads don't do this car justice. I was no where near the limits and the car was a BLAST to drive. I felt the car was very well balanced and felt in control 99% of the time. I think the power is perfect, I would not ask for any more. I would maybe do an exhaust for some sound though. SO MANY PEOPLE came to check out the car, normally most people around me are not car enthusiasts so I just tell them its a 2 series but it was nice to have people come up and ask about the M2 and I was amazed how many pre ordered one...people who were running vettes, porsches, ect. :-) Track set up - Pagid race pads, castrol brake fluid, stainless steel lines. Had cold tire pressures around 31 but did not cook them tough to make an impact so kept cold around 34-35 thereafter. I know some of you guys recc'd just to go out but I am glad I got the pads...zero fade and wicked bite. The only thing I did not realize...when the tire pressure goes down, the tire pressure monitoring system faults and you can't put it in sports mode. You need to reset this then sport mode works...unfortunately I figured this out at the end of the track day but its all good. THE M2 LAP TIMER is money. So cool to have all that data on your fingertips with a built in system. It calculates every turn, RPM, brake, speed, ect. Unreal. I am even more in love with this car and I can't wait for my next session. The track is the only way to fully experience the car hands down. Thanks for listening!

Thanks for sharing the experience! I have been very interested in going to one of the CHIN Motorsports events, but I am kind of in the limbo because I have raced before but not something really formal so not sure how they would classify me.
Regardless its my first RWD car so I woud be happy with being treated as a novice. Was going to do a track night at Palm Beach International Raceway but none left this year. Sounds like I should really stop reading and just setup for an event, wanted to do Autocross first but havent looked at local events in the next month because of work.. Any plan to head there again?

Will def be there in the next few months I can let you know when I'm the next few weeks. There were plenty of first time and novice drivers. You run in your own group and 75 percent of the time there were no cars in front of behind me that I could see. Novice drivers can only pass on the straights and you will always have an instructor with you. I would jump on it ASAP :0) |

Looking forward to seeing you guys there as well, probably won't happen until next year for me though, waiting for car to arrive and my calendar to align with Chin and other events. Been going with my neighbor and his GT4 for a few sessions there. Seems like a fun time!

Awesome! We also ran in to the TPMS issue at Sebring. We had to run ~24psi cold to get up to 36psi hot. In order to run with DSC off I'd have to do the outlap, pull off track, reset the TPMS and then get back on...

Not at all, was focused on learning the apexs and honestly I could have taken the turns faster but still need a few more sessions to get comfortable. My best lap was a 2mins and 45 seconds. To put that into perspective my brother and his vette were doing 2 15s. That's just uber crazy fast. First time on a track I'll take my best lap :0)

I'll keep this in mind. Regardless I don't think I was fast enough to get the tires properly warmed up. Thanks David!

I might be at Sebring with NASA on January 7-8. They're similar to Chin and also have novice, intermediate and advanced groups.
If anyone else decides to come to that event I'm sure we could arrange pit areas next to each other! |

Full race car. C6 zo6 with all new internals everything inside ripped out, full roll bar, doors just plastic, dyno 600 to the wheels, and slicks. It's honestly scary! |

Oh that bites.. you can't disable TPMS? On my Wife's Touareg I removed the module then coded it out using VAGCOM.... wonder if there is a BMW equivalent? (I hate TPMS)
