I Just Removed the Airbag Warning Stickers From the Visors

Got the car home last night (another post on that later) and started in on the minor mods.

The large yellow airbag warning stickers on the sun visors were an eyesore. With the visors in the up position they were beacons with the black interior and headliner.

In order not to spill the cleaner all over the interior of the car or stink up the interior with the chemical smell I removed the visors from the car. Very easy. A small cover over a single 25 torx head screw and a simple electric plug and the visors come off.

I removing the ones from my 2012 535I using Goof Off and they came off easily. Not so with the M2. I stated out with Goof Off then moved on to Rubbing Alcohol. Nothing. So I moved on to Acetone. I used it sparingly and it worked well. It dissolved the sticker. It took several steps of applying and wiping to clean it off. Then I applied several applications Lexol Vinylex Protectant. There is a slight shadow where the sticker was but it is so much nicer than the warning labels.

Amazing! And you saved yourself $230 by not buying the European versions!

I actually play this every time someone "boards".

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign. If you haven’t already done so, please stow your carry-on luggage underneath the seat in front of you or in an overhead bin. Please take your seat and fasten your seat belt. And also make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position.
If you are seated next to an emergency exit, please read carefully the special instructions card located by your seat. If you do not wish to perform the functions described in the event of an emergency, please ask a flight attendant to reseat you.

We remind you that this is a non-smoking flight. Smoking is prohibited on the entire aircraft, including the lavatories. Tampering with, disabling or destroying the lavatory smoke detectors is prohibited by law.

If you have any questions about our flight today, please don’t hesitate to ask one of our flight attendants. Thank you.”

Looks great! Just a suggestion, maybe a heat gun and some patience peeling it might be better.

Also how noticeable is the shadow? Is your car brand new? Wonder if it sorta faded from the sun causing a shadow.

I am big on using a heat gun for different applications. I would be hesitant to use one on the visors out of fear the heat would cause them to heat to the point they become misshaped.

I completed the removal the day after we go the car home from a ED. So, a tad over 2,000 miles and two weeks on the road. You are correct. I just checked and the shadow is about gone. With an LED flashlight I could see it very slightly only because I knew where to look.

This is one of the first things I'll do. Nail polish remover should work fine too. IT's mostly acetone with some oil and stuff mixed in.

Rubbing alcohol worked pretty well on the vinyl visors on my e46 M3, even though it was done 7 years after the car was sold. It's just an ugly highly visible sticker. ugh.

Nail polish remover no longer contains acetone. Lacquer thinner also works.

You guys there in USA. Do you have stickers on both visors? Or just on the passenger visor?

I saw mention of you buying a European set, but over here in UK, the passenger visor (only) has big ugly sticker. I have asked my dealer to get me a German drivers visor, but he is telling me in Germany both visors have stickers! Then he checked US parts and again, both have stickers!

I thought the answer was to buy a driver visor from a country that drives on opposite side of the road to us here in UK, but dealer is telling me it wont work.

Health and safety gone mad eh!

Is my dealer too scared to sell me a visor without a sticker?

Here is US, stickers are on both visors. They are easy to remove from the attachments, and then with some care, remove the stickers. MUCH cheaper than trying to replace...

I didn't use a heat gun for fear of being too hot, but after removing my stickers my visors had some wrinkling where the vinyl got stretched from rubbing during removal. I first saturated them with vinyl cleaner / conditioner (used VLR) then hit them with a hair dryer. Wrinkling completely gone in under a minute. Most man-made materials have a pretty good memory for original shape when heat is applied.

Really? I guess I could be forgiven for not keeping up on nail polish remover, seeing as I'm a dude.

I'll definitely read the label before trying.

Don't have my car yet, but anyone try Goo Gone? Similar to Goof Off, but a bit different formula.

Picked up my car yesterday and checked the GF's nail polish remover in the cabinet. It does have acetone. So maybe some still does have it and some doesn't. Check the label. I'm just glad I don't have to take a trip to the store.

It didn't work that well. I soaked a paper towel in rubbing alcohol and that worked a bit better. Seems a lot of solvents will do the trick.

I've used rubbing alcohol and wet it on a paper towel. Place it iOn the visor sticker and let it sit for 5-10 and the sticker lifts right off.

Once that's done, I just use a cleaner and conditioner to remove and treat the vinyl.

This is awesome...I used 91% rubbing alcohol soaked into a paper towel cut to fit over the stickers, re saturated a few times so the paper was soaked for 10+ minutes, then the stickers literally peeled off in one piece!!!
Then cleaned up the edges which had a little residual glue with my fingernail. Then cleaned and freshened it up with a little Armor All and re installed....20 minutes in all.

A few tips, one is pry the plastic tab from the "inside"/medial aspect (ie the edge facing toward the middle of the car) as it is hinged...once it is open it is super easy to unscrew with a torx and slide the electrical connection apart.

I used the pry bar I got from IND when I ordered my black chrome set.

https://ind-distribution.com/product?sku=IND-IK

Now onto the ASD harness!!!!
