For someone with a "top of the range" car, like the M2 the usual reason is one of three things:
1. Go in stealth mode - not everyone needs to know it is the most expensive, fastest, 2-series out there, or 2. Just like the cleaner lines look of it (less fussy looking), or 3. Makes it easier to clean. Could be others, but these are the ones I see cited most. If you have a "lower end" car in a series, it is sometimes done in hopes others will think you have the "better" one, but that is not usually something in the minds of the M-level owners in a range.

In Europe if you debadge people will think nothing of it. So go for it.
In America you only debadge when you don't have the top model. So keep those M2 badges. |

I would only debadge if the amount of lettering gets obtrusive. For example, on the "Porsche 718 Cayman S," that's a lot of letters...but Porsche gives you the option to debage from the factory and just say '718'. (no, it doesn't cost extra ).
I would do it for that particular car. The "M2," is beautiful in its simplicity and succinctness. I'd keep it and wear it proud. Last edited by csbear; 03-28-2016 at 10:21 PM.. |

Saw this in the parking lot at work. I got a good laugh when I saw what was parked behind me.

I am surprised people don't feel embarrassed doing shit like that... What happens when a real M2 or M car is behind you? Nothing wrong with having an M235i. Be proud of what you own. And honestly, most people don't care what you drive, so spare yourself the embarrassment from people who know their cars. And there are a lot of them! One of the worst offenders I have seen was a Corolla rebadged as a Lexus. The Corolla didn't even have any tweaks to it. OK, same parent company, but still.... |

I actually ordered my M2 in MG and without the badge on the trunk/boot lid.
I am also thinking of bying the M-performance grill for the regular 2-series to debadge it in the front as well. The badges on the side I will probably keep. Jeleausy and increasing the chances the car will go unnoticed and be left alone and a cleaner look(subjectively) are my main reasons for debadging. Br |

Also: People give you a lot of grudge if you drive anything resembling a fast car in Germany. Doesn't even depend on the actual price of the vehicle. In my experience, a lot of these people just look at badges, so sometimes my M135i (debadged) seems almost stealth in that regard, despite the obvious-for-any-petrolhead signs like multiple exhausts, big brakes, etc. I'm going to miss that with the M2 since it obviously won't be as stealthy, but I'm definitely still going for debadged (at least in the rear). On a side note: It's also a nice counter-statement to all the M3-badged 316i driving around here. |

Sometimes a badge breaks up the monotony of the single color of the car's body, but yes, it is a cleaner look without badges. |

Someone in my parking garage at work has done this to his M235i. I was in disbelief when I first saw it - I'm waiting for that awkward moment when I encounter him in my M2. I never understood why people do this type of thing - the only people who know what the fake badge signifies are people who will know the owner is a poseur.

Someone actually took the "2" off and just the left the \\\M as a tribute to the 1M. It looked cool. I won't do it, but I think it looked cool. I am going to plastic dip all the chrome and the M2 badge in matte/carbon black. Dull black, like my love life! I will leave the \\\ alone as a tribute to the "FACTORY".

With that said, my M2 will keep its badges intact - I prefer to keep it close to factory looks wise. |
