Carbon fiber spoiler install

Anyone who has had this installed. Is it all double side tape or attached with bolts? Looking to have installed just after taking delivery but company doing my xpel coverage and tint says can also install if double side taped.

Any info would be appreciated!

Typically installed with 3M tape. Another option is to use Betalink adhesive, but that is typically harder / impossible to remove if you mess up the initial install...fine to just stick with the double sided automotive tape.

All the above; only would add to make sure both surfaces are totally clean and grease free, and you are good to go.

This may be a stupid question, but what's the best method to remove the backing on the tape while keeping everything perfectly placed? I have the BMW CF spoiler and will install it this weekend. There's clearly something going on with the backing, as it's in different colors (blue and red if memory serves) and some of it sticks out. I can only assume there's a document for what to pull when but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone shed any light?

edit: I googled spoiler installation and apparently there's no magic to the adhesive. it's just mark it, remove the backing and stick it on. I was thinking there was some special sanctioned method. For anyone else wondering in the future, I think the best method I saw was to lay it out where it needs to go and then put a few pieces of painters tape on the forward/leading edge. then just pivot up using the tape as a hinge, remove the backing, and lay it back down. Actually looks pretty simple....

Mark the previous spoiler before you take it off so you can place it in the exact same spot. Position it based on the back and sides of the previous spoiler, since the CF spoiler has a slightly larger footprint.

Will be doing the same with an AutoID CF spoiler probably next weekend.

Fishing line and adhesive remover is a safer way of removing the original spoiler. I wouldn't advise doing it the way in the video. Heat it up before running the line if the spoiler is cold.

The way they attach the new one in the video is the best way I know of. Don't make the mistake of pulling off all the backing before you put it down!

Could someone give me the exact dimensions of this spoiler (how high it is and how far it sticks out from the boot)?
I'm having a car cover made and the manufacturer wants dimensions since it'd a non-stretchy material.
Thanks alot in advance!

Is it just me or does the spoiler look like it is seriously pulling up towards each end. The left side doesn't look great in the video after it has been installed.

Haha yeah doesn't look too flush.

I've watched 4 or 5 youtube videos. They're all mostly the same. Haven't heard of any super secret tricks.

Does the last inch of each side of your spoiler sit perfectly against the trunk as the rest of the spoiler does? Mine appears to be slightly off the trunk, maybe an 1/8''

my gap is less than that but still noticeable to someone who considers themselves OCD. I dont think the betalink will make a difference because on my spoiler the edges literally wont touch the trunk even with a decent amount of pressure. It's almost as if during manufacturing the edge slightly curve up.

Someone in the forums has it. I forget their name but they bought it from shuttergang. Personally I don't think it goes with the M2's body lines.

Similar ones that imo look better are AC Schnitzer or PSM. Both of these come in 2 variants, with the "notch" on the center or completely rounded off

I concur with posters above. The M performance CF spoiler fitment is poor IMO. I did everything possible to ensure a proper fit (polished off old adhesive residue followed by IPA wipe down, followed by 3M adhesive promoter. I spent a good 40 minutes lining things up making marks and measuring to ensure perfect fitment and even taped the corners down for a week and eventually both edges lifted. BMW needs to have the molding very slightly changed to have the ends taper slightly down. That would ensure the ends don't lift and there's no danger of the middle section separating as that part has a very strong bond. I realize CF is more difficult to get perfect but this is one of the worst OEM fitments I've ever seen on any car which is inexcusable for the money they charge for the piece.
