M Laptimer v. M Drive Analyser

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with these apps, that can provide some commentary around the pros/cons of them? The online documentation from BMW is pretty poor. It appears that the M Drive will also do lap times??

The OBD Dongle for the Drive Analyser shows to be $265 on the BMW website, wondering if it is worth it?

I would like to track this car, and as noted by others there is no Oil Temp Gauge on the car. Ideally it would be nice to have a decent track app that also shows oil temp for those of us that run in the warmer climates.

Will be using soon and will provide feedback. The Performance Analyser and be found online a couple places from 150-200, search a bit don't buy at that price.

I have quite some experience with the M Performance Drive Analyser.
I used it to gain the data for my videos on markymark666 RaceRender Videos

Example:

In fact I was in loose contact with the developers in the past. It's nearly identical to Drivedeck Sports Pro...

Feel free to ask...

Will be updating later on during the week. I used it for the first time Sunday during an Autocross event and not all parameters were reading properly. My Tach, Speedometer were not registering correctly.

I will review the data export to see if it missed there or if the transfer of the Video portion is just missing it.

I used the laptimer app with an iPod Touch and an M235 at Palmer Motorsports and Watkins Glen. Fantastic. Gives you lap times and max speed of course, but also allows you to review the entire sessions later in different modes, e.g. mph, RPM, throttle, braking, fuel usage, g-force.

Plus, it's easy to use. Start the app on the iPod, plug it in to the USB connection, and the app on iDrive will prompt you to start the session.

I assume both M Laptimer and M Drive Performance Analyzer use the in-car GPS. Any idea what the update frequency is (1Hz?) or if an external GPS can be used?

I bought the drive analyzer and for the life of me it doesn't look like it will do lap times, just overall time that it has been running. am i missing something here?

Do you know how to decode the .mpower archives? I discovered that the .mpower archive is just a zip file. Within this this zip, there are a number of files: location.far, rpm.far, etc. I would like to convert these binary files to a .csv that I can feed into RaceRender. I can write the decode software but I need to know what the format of each of these binary files is. Have you seen any such specs?

Why don't you use simply the RaceRender export function?

Does the laptimer app keep a record of the data in any place that the BMW dealer can look back at and see that you tracked the car to deny maintenance or water th claims?
