You haven't fully read or understood Artemis 's summary. The USA site is the only BMW site to presently continue to reference closed deck. All the other BMW sites have removed the "closed deck" references. That is what created this entire question. Try to find "closed deck" reference on these present sites! http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/new-vehic...roduction.html or here https://www.bmw.de/de/neufahrzeuge/M...5/motoren.html zenmaster has, in my opinion, successfully contacted high level USA BMWNA folks who confirm the "closed deck" block design. It is unlikely that high level BMNA personnel would make up a story about this. I thus would respectfully consider zenmaster 's contact to be more "official" than a web site. |

I settled for accepting that there's at least a deck, which we might nickname 'the party deck'.

Until any of you bleating about the deck type start pushing real boost with updated turbos, it doesn't matter.

I just dont get it? Everyone clamoring for the M2 not to have a closed deck with a superior engine owns some type of M3 or 1/2 series. All I see is jealousy because BMW's best car is the M2 and the M3 is now a grand touring vehicle. Keep trying guys, and when the day comes when photo proof comes out it will be great to hear yalls opinion. Its photo-shopped? Its some other inline 6 block? It should be more closed? |

That is a fair point. I am not questioning open, closed, or party deck. I was just trying to respond to.....it is "official" because it is on the BMWNA website. I originally, on a previous M2 vs M240 thread, mentioned the N55B30T0's closed block, S55 internals and oil pump and the OP called me on the closed deck asking for "official confirmation" stating there was none that he was aware of. I looked into it and, to my surprise, found he had a point! As I have previously stated I am comfortable with zenmaster 's communication with BMWNA and consider this matter closed. I do enjoy my M2 everyday and consider it to be a well executed and special car. The reason it matters, at least to me, is that closing the deck would show BMW put in a great deal of effort to make the N55B30T0 a special motor for a special car and renew my faith in BMW as a company committed to "the ultimate driving machine". You learn a lot more from actual experience or from listening to fellow forum members' actual experiences than from being trained like a parrot from a manual. For all you know, the engineer at BMW of NA probably looked up the US website and/or wrong training manual and told you that it was closed deck. The only way you'd know is if someone opened up the engine and posted a picture. Another reason I don't believe this is because they said that from the 2015 M235i, the engine was changed. So the engine in the 2014 M235i and 2015 M235i is different ??? I have a 2015 M235i and want to believe it but it just does not make sense. 2 years ago, if BMW of NA had said something about something, I would've taken their word for Gospel and even spread that information on this forum with a lot of confidence. It's not 2 years ago... |

Like, every other statistical number on the bmwusa website that has hp ratings, mpg etc is wrong? And if you are saying just the closed deck fact is wrong on their website, where did they even get that information from to put that? They had to have got that closed deck information somewhere from Germany. I'm sure a company like BMW wouldn't "guess." And there's a huge picture of an engine and explaining its a closed deck on their site. Honestly what are the odds, BMWUSA got that wrong? And that's not even counting the possible legal issues they could deal with if they are wrong. |

1, BMW USA website has listed rebates wrongly on cars (usually 500$) many times. Happened with the M235i as well. I am not sure if they can do that legally either. 2, BMW NA told me that all cars go through the same Customs process. This is also not true as a small percentage of cars are randomly chosen to get a thorough customs inspection. 3, The screenshots from Artemis also show very blatant and honestly pathetic errors about the BMW 1M. Do you believe that the BMW 1M is actually an M3 or has a V8 engine ?? If you want to believe that, I have a few magic beans that I am selling. The third point above is from the actual owner's manual. If there are no legal repercussions there, I am not sure exactly what legal repercussions they can face by having something wrongly identified on their website. I think it's important to think logically about what is possible and what is not. I know with a high degree of certainty that the 2014 and 2015 M235is have the same engine. The engineer said that the engine was changed in the 2015 M235i which does not make sense. He probably meant that all M235is had a modified engine but forgot or did not know that 2014 was the first model year of the M235i. All I am saying is that even a company like BMW can get things wrong once in a while and in some instances where there is a reason to doubt something, it's better to logically arrive at the most probable conclusion. |
