What I wonder is if the ECM will even be crackable. You know they have to have the tech now to stop it all, or at least deny your warranty for even tampering with it. That puts tuning YEARS out.

It’s always able to be circumvented if there’s enough time and money invested. The rule is you can’t secure anything an attacker has full physical access to indefinitely. People jailbreak iPhones regularly and Bosch isn't Apple. You can make it so hard that people give up, especially on a less popular device or where those trying to break protections aren’t skilled enough. |

No doubt guys who seriously track will find places to use extra power but I'm sure no.1 on their wish list would be getting rid of some weight. |

I think my overall feeling is that the Golden Age is gone, and that the near future will be very different with regards to tuning/emissions. |

I don't think they will go as hard as they technically could with the G platforms. The infrastructure isn't quite there as things like coding for G8x are still possible. I am sure the next gen stuff will be much more difficult as it bleeds into security concerns.

The G87 promises to be exceptional on the track if it's anything like the G82 Comp. Not sure if the G87 will autocross like the F87 stock though

The shape of a car is just too important. The F87 M2c is a far better looking car and the S55 is a good enough competitor with the S58. I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. F87 M2c will be the correct choice into posterity IMO.

it will be faster. but just adding power and tire to make a car faster doesn't impress me.
it will be heavier, it will be more refined / less involving / better daily driver. the gauge cluster is an ipad which is cheap (just like the zf8 trans compared to an m-dct). the manual is a carry over from the n54 cars from 10 years ago. which is why the manual m3 gets neutered in power compared to the auto. bmw isnt spending a dime to develop it further. i'm happy with my f87c dct as a daily. i couldn't look at a g8x based car in my garage and be happy.

I love the s58 it is an impressive power plant and imo the best bmw has ever made.
But I think I am part of the minority when I say, I kind of wish bmw went the amg route, and put a high revving high strung super light weight 4 cylinder into the m2 and made the car 3000 lbs or less. That would really make the m2 unbelievably fun to drive and it would make it alot better on track, since weight is much harder to lose compared to gaining horsepower. Maybe they could also focus more on aero performance, by giving us a flat floor and fix up the rear end by covering it up to improve flow under the car. Other than that the g87 has grown on me, I don't mind the way it looks - not as good as the f87 but im not a hater, and its interior is light years better than the f87.

I don’t know what it is but I’ve never found the 2 series to be photogenic. I’ve never looked at pictures of the M2 and thought it was anything special but it looks so much better irl than it does in pics to me. Same goes for the G platform, I was underwhelmed when I first saw pics of it but then saw a few irl and it has a presence about it that pics doesn’t quite capture. I’m willing to bet it will be the same for the G87 and look much better irl than it does in pics.

[QUOTE=chris719;29631563]The 2 is always purposefully made a bit squished and uglier in profile than the 4 series by BMW.
Uglier 😂 , nah
