I'm starting to wonder if they gave adaptive LEDs as a consolation to those that had a MY17 on order and were unfortunately delayed. Guess the take away of this is if you want adaptive LEDs you should get the exec package to be safe. |

And of course if you call BMW NA, they say it's only in the Exec Pkg, so I got the 'Genius' email address and sent them a couple different images as proof that it's happening. Not holding my breath waiting on a reply.

Week 37 build so hopefully in a couple of months. I already told him to call and let me know what tires it has as soon as it arrives. If it comes with Contis I'm going to order MP4S, ship them to the dealership to be installed before I take delivery. I've had Contis in the past and cannot stand them. They have sloppy sidewalls that fold during hard cornering and they just don't grip as well as Michelin's. Only bright side of them is they were better for comfort and had less road noise.

On the other hand, if you don't care about anything in that option package, then it wouldn't really matter if the base price of the car was twice as much. In fact, I don't see how the base price of the car has anything to do with it.

I would think that, for most, the removal of the Rear Facing Camera from the '17 Exec pkg and added as a standard feature has made the '18 Exec Pkg much more 'optional'.

At any rate, the mere arrival of a non-Exec car without Adaptive LEDs this early into the model year alone should disprove this theory.

Is it possible that some non exec cars were built with them for some other markets and they got shuffled in with the domestic ones? Probably not possible. Plus some non exec domestic orders showed them

Is it just possible that the ordering system was screwed at some point and the kinks weren’t fully worked out? And some orders got through with the adaptive LEDs as a line item and BMW is honoring them?
Seems 10000x more likely than these grand theories. |

Would be interesting to know if "552 adaptive LED" is in the build sheet for the non-exec car, but with traditional round halos.
My point is if BMW builds according to the sheet 100%. |

The Client Advisors didn't add the Adaptive LEDs - they just magically appeared on some, but not all, non-Exec orders.

Yes, for those that are getting them, they are on the build sheet as a standard (included) item, but they only come with the hex coronas/halos.

With all of the computerization, tracking and just-in-time delivery of parts to the moving production line, it would be very difficult to say that this variance was not deliberately planned from the very start of production - in fact, by Stage 111. It's incredibly unlikely that all the parts for this variance - e.g., light switch, wiring harness, adaptive lights and window sticker - weren't programmed into the build from the beginning. Every one of the parts in question had to fall into place at exactly the correct time on the line, or the line would have been stopped to check the build sheets and incoming parts for the next cars in line. This absolutely was not a casual mistake on the line - too many parts and system checks were involved.
We need to see more pictures of cars and their window stickers; right now, IMHO this variance points to only base M2s with DCT and/or sunroof (or some other option) having the Adaptive LED Headlights and the base M2s without the same option(s) having the regular LEDs. We certainly can't identify a trend based on two samples. Besides, every manufacturer reserves the right to make running changes and/or improvements (and update specifications) during the model year, so anyone thinking there's a class action suit in this variance is way off target. YMMV! |

Should have been more specific. Seems like some people are hoping they get the adaptives without the exec package. If they really wanted them then they should have spent the relatively small increase in the overall price of roughly 3%. If you're buying a $53k car that should be pocket change. If it's not then you can't afford the car, IMO.
