I don't get it. I understand it's part of "real M" cars... but BMW didn't put them on the M2 for a reason. (I also think they are kind of ugly, but everyone has their own preference there.)

I'm pretty sure that I read wind noise / other aerodynamics were a concern and actually part of the reason they chose not to put the M mirrors on.

People don't think about it but there is a massive investment in NVH research on cars, and wind whistle from mirrors is actually a big deal. On the M3/4, the funky mirror was necessary to hit their NVH target as far as wind noise was concerned; on the M2 they apparently didn't need it due to the different shape of the car.

Of course, product differentiation / segmentation is also a part of it... but I would rather have the mirror on the car that was tested to be better, than have something with a weird little wing thing on it that actually makes the car worse (objectively, per BMW's own testing).

The mirror caps don't even look close and look fake to me especially from the back side.

Hate to break it to you but those don't look the same at all. I wish there was a somewhat more affordable solution to having m3/m4 mirrors on these cars. IMO that's the only swap to the overall look aside from MP caps (or equivalents from akrapovic etc) that should be done to the mirrors on these cars.

The thing with needing the OEM M2 mirrors is to utilize the electrical parts, which cannot be bought separately from BMW. There's a controller inside that communicates with the car's computer and also the motor unit that adjust the lens for you.

I am very close to having 50 pre-orders here in Taiwan and I will be working closely with iND for the other quantities. iND have the capability to take things apart and put them together correctly; seeing what they done to the M2 is just spectacular.

I do agree it might seem troublesome sending the OEM ones in and getting the M3/M4 style ones back, but trust me, this is the only way. Unless one is willing to pay almost triple to what I'd price for. Plus, the next owner will not complain and ask you to put the OEM ones back, cause they know the M mirrors are just so much better

The parts you speak of have to be available.....what does one do it the mirror is damaged in a accident or vandalism........

BMW will only sell you the complete unit, plastic cover is the only thing that can be purchased separately. All the electrical come as one complete unit with mirror...
