I wouldn't be surprised if the new engine for the standard M2 is labeled as S58. Will probably share some parts with the S55 and B58, basically a mixture of both engine components and still being single turbo. Dealers around me are starting to sell for msrp which gives me a bad feeling about all of this... they probably received inside news already about the lci having a revised engine...

The phrase "base M2" is just comical.

The "more bang for the buck M2" or "reasonably priced M2" is just a tad mouthful.

It's stupid, because there is only one.

Companies need to stay innovative/competitive or they risk losing share. The smart companies do this and stay efficient in the process (i.e. fewer engine platforms across similar models - hint, hint). Is every new product a raging success? Of course not. But better to try than to sit back and do nothing at all...for that is the easiest way to lose your customer to your competitors.

When we add N55, it's a little more informative like a 330i or 340i is in the regular cars.

Just search the forum, there is plenty of info about the S55 in the M2.

IMO,based on what I have read I think there is a very good possibility of the MY18 M2 getting the S55 engine. We won't know for sure until something is confirmed by BMW.

330i means different things to different BMW owners. How many cylinders, what kind of induction, how many gears in the transmission, etc........

nah man you are too humble. I gotta personally hand you a gold medal for being the funniest. Seems like you can tell the future knowing for certain that BMW will call it the M2 CSL. Want to tell us the specs so everyone on here won't have to speculate? That would be totally awesome

It doesn't. But there was a e46 330i which had a production run in the US from 2003 to 2006 with a M54B30 normally aspirated I6 and not the current F30 330i with a B48B20B turbo charged I4. The 8 speed ZF auto was not available in the e46. One would have to know which model was being discussed and "330i" is not enough information.

Oh maybe I wasn't clearer earlier. When I said 330i, I assumed you already knew the year. If you knew which year, you would easily be able to tell what engine it had based on 330i, 340i etc.

So on a less controversial topic - anyone seen the front end of the LCI model? I'm hoping for a smoother transition on the hood shut line. Looks like they've figured this out for the 7 and 5, why not the 2?

Because that was a full model redesign on the 7 not an LCI. Not happening on the 2.

Because it's based on the 3/4 which also has the terrible hood shut line.
