AST - 5100, 5200, and 5300 Series Coilover Systems for M2
The newest addition to the M lineup, nothing defines the BMW legacy more than the M2 Coupe. This latest M harks back to the original E30 M3 and the even earlier 2002 tii models from the 1970s.
With this legacy in mind we are excited to announce that the full line of AST 5000 series systems for M2 is available from AST. AST's inverted design allows for wide wheel and tire clearance without the need for wheel spacers and adapters. Our kit is a favorite among BMW M owners who incorporate aggressive wheels, tires, and low front splitters. The inverted technology produces an extremely strong damper, providing better suspension geometry under heavy lateral and braking loads in either a spirited road or track environment. Using a 45mm inverted piston design increases damper strength in all directions, optimizing cornering and braking forces under high-stress conditions. Proven during countless competitions around the world, our design provides an ultra-strong strut with low frictional resistance. We are an authorized AST retailer, feel free to contact us with any questions and we will be happy to help.

Fine-tuned on my BMW M2 last month in the Netherlands by the AST headquarters, I can ensure you that this is the best of the best in the world of suspension kits.
I have a AST-5100 on my MINI GP2 and it is absolutely wonderful and a sublime mix between that additional bit of sportiness and improved handling you need, and that bit of comfort you want to keep. My M2 will not get a set, I will leave that for when the CS arrives. Must-have absolutely! MR Last edited by MR.; 08-07-2017 at 04:22 PM.. |

Fantastic set, having driven it now for a few days the car feels totally transformed, and looks how it should, 28mm down on the front 12mm at the back Rake 10mm, makes the all round experience of driving the car better, not to mention the dampers are second to non!! photos to follow soon.

So even if you have a M2 CS you are still going to change that improved CS suspension? Just curious; what is the main reason you want a M2 CS? Because you could also upgrade your current M2 to better specs then the CS...with aftermarket brakes, suspension, lichter wheels, etc...

Yes I'm also considering AST 5200 and JRZ RS Two Sport.
Wonder if maybe 5100 would be enough for 10 track days a year and DD. The two way adjustability might help to fine tune it further though. |

I am going to change the Competition in a way I never did with the normal M2 simply because the spec of the Competition will be a lot better and I had the M2 for two years, and want something new. MR |

Are there people out there who can compare the AST-5100 vs the M performance suspension... Difference in comfort on street and performance on track? I have read some good things about the M performance suspension as a nice compromise between road comfort and track handling, the warranty is nice to have but not a necessity...is AST on a level way above the MP suspension?

The main thing I heard about M Performance is that it is a major step forwards on the matter of handling on track. I have never driven with it, but the people that have done so told me the car is way more planted and there is a lot less body roll. The AST suspension was fitted just before the winter kicked in here, so it has not been driven in yet and I have also not driven it, but I will. As soon as I have a chance I will compare both, and I will definitely do it before the suspension is installed on my car. MR |

How are the opinions about the "street"comfort with the M Performance suspension?

Did anyone ever do a full review of the ast’s on the M2 and comparison with MP coilovers? Looking to get the AST 5100’s soon but tempted by the KW clubsports instead but worried they’ll be too extreme for a daily car.

I'd like to know what the difference between AST and Moton is these days. I'm pretty sure they're owned by the same company now, but both lines still exist. Is one more track-focused than the other? Or are they basically the same thing sold as two different names?

Same company. Both brands are race & track oriented. With AST you can get purely street stuff, though, if you go below 5100 series. Moton is high-end and race & track only.

Not M2 but I'd say neither is a particularly good choice for a daily car. Both will eventually need a rebuild and servicing. Clubsports have a range of settings more suitable for track, and yes, are probably too extreme for daily use. AST - you can't fit dust boots and better not use them in winter. I really loved AST5100, so much better than Bilstein PSS16 and KW, on a car that was my daily, a perfect and superior balance of handling and comfort, with and without the optional camber plates, exceptional handling, easy to set up, really loved them... all the 5000 km until they needed a rebuild (

Mine has MPerf coilovers and GWM2 OGM2 had AST 5100 and he has them also now on his M2C. At the time, GWM2 car's AST ride was definitely softer than my car alas I believe he may have had rear damper firmness tweaked upwards after we'd swapped cars. Tagging GreatWhiteM2 so as he can comment further
