Has anyone tried stock rear wheels in front for a square setup?
Just out of curiosity - has anyone tried this? I am looking for a square setup and I quite like the 437M style.
I am currently running stock wheels /w 12mm spacers in front, 10mm rear lowered on MP Coilovers. I know it probably wouldn't make much sense to buy the rims new (~$2k for a pair, I could buy a set of 4 VFF-103's for that money), but maybe I can pick up some used ones. Here are the measurements in a calculator: http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.j...w2=10.0&et2=40 If I'm reading this right, fender clearance is exactly the same, the only difference is the wheelwell and suspension clearance. I assume wheelwell clearance (if it's an issue) can be solved by going to a lower profile 265/30-19 tire. For the suspension clearance, since I am running 12mm spacers, that is an additional 21 - 12 = 9mm (0.3543 inches) closer to the suspension. Seems alright, but I will take measurements tomorrow (not sure how to go about this - does the clearance change if the suspension is fully compressed vs. resting?) Since I'm pretty much winging this, any input would be appreciated! EDIT: My GF also suggested that I should swap the front and rear wheels to test the fitment first, she's smarter than me! I believe I have seen ppl fitting rear size (265/35/19) tires up front using stock front wheels (9JX19) which is not a good idea anyways considering the size of 9' is optimal for going between tire sizes 245 or 255.
If I am recalling my memory correctly from many posts in the past, 10JX19 does not fit (even without the spacers) at the front without camber adjustment. (Especially when you are lowered). 9.5JX18 is famous for square setup for track wheels and tires where ppl fit from 255 to 275s all around. Safer way will be fitting 265/30/19 all around but that makes you to change current rear tires as well if you want to go true square setup. I know someone selling rear wheels (I think i have seen it in the member forum), but I would highly recommend to get sets of wheels + tires that would safely fit on the car. 10J is actually pretty aggressive on F80, F82 at the front. I personally will not recommend going that wide. |

My rear tires are almost due for a change, which is what prompted me to look at a square setup to allow me to rotate my tires. That's a bummer people have tested it and it won't fit - maybe I'll take a look at 18" for the track. I leaning towards keep 19" to keep the option of fitting the M Perf BBK, but that sounds really expensive so probably not worth it. |

If anyone is going with a setup that has actual tire and wheel sticking out from the fender, they have to make sure tire will not be in contact with fender at full compression. (Or make enough camber to clear). You dont want to risk your life going too far.. |

We have had a number of M2 customers running our 18x10 ET33 fitment square. We recommend a 10mm or 12mm spacer with this fitment to aid in clearance to the OEM suspension. Camber is required for this.
The 437M is a 19x10 ET40. So you would need at least an 18mm spacer to make this work. We would recommend close to -3˚ of negative camber if you wanted to fit the rear 437M up front as a square fitment. I hope this was helpful - Max

Thanks for the help guys!
I did a quick finger measurement test by sticking my hand between the back of the wheel and the suspension and there's definitely not 1" of room even with 12mm spacers. So looks like this is a no-go |

Using a wheel fitment tool with the 12mm spacers up front it should be less than half an inch closer than the 9 inch rim.

The 18mm spacer as recommended by Max above should work perfectly

Yes, 18mm sounds like it would clear the suspension (with an 18mm spacer it'll be 3mm closer than stock), however at that point it would be way outside the fender (unless you add a lot of negative camber), wouldn't it?

No. You can run 12mm over stock on outside

Has anyone actually done this successfully? I like to see a picture of the rears fitted to the front...?
I'm very keen to have a square setup and keep the stock wheels & suspension. I do have adjustable top mounts and currently -2.5deg front camber and wouldn't really want to add more that that as the car is used on the road as well as track. |
