Stefan, are you DCT? Let us know what BMW tells you about the changed items.

All normal. Car sounded fantastic.

N180321 everything changed. Much quieter car.

3 or so weeks later-

N180921 car seems to feel normal again (overruns). But at this point things are getting a bit confusing.

Can't really speak for performance however since I don't really have a good 'butt dyno' baseline that I can vividly recall because car received that second update right after I took car out of winter hibernation. I feel like saying that it does feels a bit different (less lively) but can't with confidence.
Where do you see the release notes mate?

Cheers

I've compared the latest few versions of the raw map. ( 2017-03 ISTEP+ ) Nothing has been changed internally on the DME. What you might be feeling is simply adaptation changes.

I have not compared the DME version between the original 2016/2017 build ( before 2017-03 ) with the new DME version ( I don't have it )

There are subtle coding changes that may affect power output, but it's not substantial.

No. I used to say this same thing but the changes were significant as described.

So BMW called me back. You guys are going to love this..

- they say what I was experienced was the running-in service changes. Yes, BMW themselves claims that the car is running in a "less optimal" state during the first 2,000km. I asked how, they stumbled around a bit and said it simply unlocks its full potential at running-in service and the software update was part of that.

- BMW said they weren't sure exactly what was changed but that it's possible software updates can improve the customer experience. That's as deep as it went.

Just wow.. really? All I care about is that we dont lose the pops and overrun crackles which some have said were removed or strongly lessened after the latest istep revision

Sorry, did I miss something? Is there a mandatory software update? Last time I was in I begged for an update and they said no. I'm taking the car back next week for a strange wheel rattle. Will they do it now?

I'm 2017 6MT, so if the update is for DCT or LCI, I wouldn't get it.

Early LCI cars got an update for the instrument cluster, but it was a full istep update that covered every ECU, including the DME. It was a recall, and therefore mandatory.

Got it, thanks. I thought all of those would have been brought up to snuff by now but I guess it's taking some time.

I did notice the difference between pre-run-in service and after. 3 things:
-more burble and pops - was nearly absent before
-more throttle response
-DCT was smoother and less likely to make a jerky gear shift-low speed only

hey man so after a few weeks can you confirm whether your overruns are still normal? this car is so moody so i am wondering if that was only temporary? if your overruns are still there i may consider paying the dealership for the newsest update instead of voiding my warranty with a tune

Yes we need to know. Nobody wants to lose their overrun burbles.

Mdm gives you burbles on deceleration. Sport/Sport+ give them to you a little on deceleration, and more between shifts; MDM doesnt give you the latter. We dont want to lose ANY of them! Hear that BMW??????

I just looked at the latest ISTEP. There is absolutely zero change on the burble tables from early 2017 to 2018-05.

Excellent.. Thanks for reporting back.. Strange how some folks have reported this, but they seem to be the unusual ones.. Most dont seem to notice any difference, as we'd expect.

Lol

Don't know what to say guys...

'Moody' May be a good descriptor. I sincerely believe there is a difference vs my original istep version.. however, seeing myself and a few others seem to be very much in the minority, I will simply have to accept what I perceive to be a slightly quieter car...until I eventually get a DP and tune that is

But for what it's worth, it did seem the latest update I received improved upon the previous one.

Just had the mandatory update done at my first annual visit for the recall, and pops/crackles are definitely still present, if not more amplified. The rev match seems to be smoother as well, no longer jerky if you don't hit it perfectly.

"Mandatory update"? "Recall"? What have I missed?
