Downpipe Install?

Hey guys, I really want to buy a catless downpipe for my car, but I really don't want any problems with the dealer at the same time. How easy is it to install the downpipe and uninstall? I've heard it's pretty easy, but can't really find much info on it or how to install.

Since you ask, I'd suggest you find yourself a mechanic to save you a lot of trouble.

don't forget the time to cool it down before trying to handle it.

also if you're catless you'll need some way to clear the check engine light.

I just swapped mine out two weeks ago. It's not bad at all. If I were you I would DIY. The first time might take you 1-2 hours but after that it'll only take 20-30 min.

Here is a bare bones walk through:
-Unplug the two sensors up top
-Remove the skid pan
-Remove 3 or 5 small bolts on the support bracket
-Remove lower v-band clamp (it's a single bolt)
-Remove upper v-band clamp (also a single bolt)

That's it.

Depending on your tool/lift/skills it shouldn't take more than 3 hours TOPS. Our techs can get it done in 1.5-2hrs.

Take a look into the installation manual and decide if you can do it by yourself:

Unbolting the sensors while still in the engine bay would suck! I unplugged mine from above and unscrewed them outside of the car.

Our techs found doing it that way easier as well.

People here claim 20-30 min and your professional techs wants 2h?
Who should we trust here?

If you want quality work done and no mistakes, you're going to want to take your time. I will find it very hard to believe that it takes someone 20-30min, start to finish, to do the downpipe.

Yeah, that was what I was hinting at... Usually people exaggerate on how quick installs are (intentionally or not).

I agree. I would never rush a job like this, especially on turbo cars just because boost can do some interesting things to a car when not properly taken care of haha!

I'm going to time it when I install mine. I guarantee it won't be done 20 minutes after I start - it'll probably take me that long to get my car on my ramps (compulsively obsessing about getting them perfectly straight) and get my tools assembled (and beer opened).

When I'm done, we'll know how long it takes someone who works very slow to complete the job.

A nice cold beer is a quintessential part of the installation.

It took me about 3 hours, but I work slow & also let it cool down a bit, as it was pretty warm from just driving my car on the ramps.

I spent a lot of time getting the front exhaust clamp off and even more getting it lined up & back on. Would be a lot faster if I needed to do it again. A lift would also make it easier.

It's always easier the second time around. Glad to see you were able to get it done! Now time for some videos.

Any suggestion on how to unplug the sensors? I just don't want to break the clips. Thanks!

I don't remember anything special with the clips. Just push the tab and remove.
