It’s strange that Pagid RS29 noise is so caliper dependent. On my TT RS with Brembo 4-pots, I hardly have any noise on the street or track; but same pads on StopTech ST-40 are noisy. Sounds like M2 calipers are noisy too with RS29s.

I had to take my RS29s off for the street. Got tired of sounding like an old school bus and seeing pedestrians plugging their ears as I approached an intersection. Wonder if the stock backing pad/shim would help, but I didn’t want to peel it off.

matty-f - I took the stock pads off and BMW has what looks like a nylon backing plate on the pads and a fair amount of goop. Guessing that strategy may work on RS29s as well?

19 May Autobahn South Course, Joliet, IL
Windy City BMW CCA: 1:37.22 (Harry's, external GPS) RE71 265/35-18 / 18x9.5 square Hawk DTC 70 GC Camber plates @ -2.6 All else stock Notes - First time there, no doubt time still left on table. - Also First weekend with 265 square setup - car turns much better than before. I see no downside to this. - Some kind of front brake cooling on the list - managed long pedal with shorter run times, but not the desired solution. Likely track specific - Autobahn is flat, compact and several longish segments followed by tight right/left combos. Didn't have this issue at VIR full course or Mid Ohio last year. Really nice day with great weather at LRP. As part of my Birthday present girlfriend came along for her first ever ride on track. Some interesting moments. She thought I was looking for a high-five when getting point bye's Also not particularly pleased when sliding the car or following too closely for her comfort to a nice white M3. Had a bit of a moment when I decided to try drifting around the left-hander on the last lap.

Autoclub Speedway Roval - 2:05
2018 M2 Manual Tires: Contis Pads: RS29 Fluid: Stock Around 85F that day. It was my 2nd time on the track with the M2. Going to change brake fluid next as I think I noticed a little more pedal travel towards the end. Had some trouble with the TPMS warning telling me I needed to reset, but didn’t kick my out of sport+. Had some other questions so I’ll start a new thread. Pal, sorry just saw your reply. I’ve been swapping pads back and forth so I don’t want to take the backing plate off the stock ones. I’d buy plates if BMW sold them, but I haven’t inquired. |

UltraMagneticAL ran faster than I did on his last day out lol. I think it was a 1:57 mid that he hit. I'll have to find a good day to get out there and beat him

lots of miata traffic so i couldn't push it every lap. First time doing this configuration, i used to do CW config all the time in my MR-S years ago. Will be doing Big Willow this Sunday for the first time too!!! Last edited by UltraMagneticAL; 06-13-2018 at 05:32 PM.. |

Can't speak for all materials, but any anti-squeal goop I've ever seen on the back of a race pad will easily melt at track temps. I've seen an example of people trying and every attempt didn't end well at all. The noise is a very slight inconvenience for track pad performance.
