Fire Extinguisher

Has anyone mounted a fire extinguisher on your driver side floor board yet?

If so could you tell me what mounting system you used??

Thanks!!

Another less glamorous approach is this under-seat mount from Brey-Krause:

And an Amerex 2.5lb extinguisher. It's not as pretty but it's a HELLUVA lot cheaper.

Thanks!! That's more of what I was looking for. I don't necessarily need Halon or anything along those lines.

Now if I was racing the car that would be different.

No problem.

I really wish we could get the BMW extinguishers here in the states. I have one in my E46 from Germany and it fits just perfect.

Definitely. Germany seems to be very safety conscious. You don't see the cars sold in the USA equipped with warning triangles and safety vests. Although our dealership has been selling cars equipped with first aid kits.

Heck, you have to take them out if you do a European Delivery just to make sure they make it home.

This mount hops , bounces, and flexes whilst underway .

Yeah, this is accurate as pictured with the Amerex bracket holding the extinguisher. Pretty noisy on bumpy roads too. It did help to lower the seat a bit so the extinguisher handle is resting on the floor/floor mat, but probably not advisable if the seat it’s mounted to will be moved frequently.

I plan to leave the Brey Krause bracket in, but remove the extinguisher and it’s bracket until I’m required to carry the extinguisher again.

There’s one local 1x annual event where an ABC extinguisher is required for extinguishing grass fires if you go off the road.

It’s sufficient for my limited use, but not something i’d Want to leave in place full time.

I’m curious though if the quick release bottle holder that Brey Krause also sells as an add on makes a notable improvement in rigidly holding the bottle. The Amerex bottle holder bracket is pretty flimsy, but not sure whether the seat bracket is too.

I switched fire the extinguisher to a Halotron 1.4lb unit.

Are you using all 6 bolts to attach the mount to the seat?

I’ll check again when I remove it, but I believe only 4 holes matched up.

You need all 6 for it not to be floppy, assuming the 4 in question are the 4 in a line-- no structure to that!

The Brey Krause fire extinguisher is just a copy of the OE BMW fire extinguisher, seat side, but then with the Amerex bolt pattern on the fire extinguisher side-- it should be every bit as rigid as stock, properly installed!

To clarify, I used all 6 screws for the bracket to seat side of the B-K bracket mounting.

For bracket to bracket though, I used two pair of two, so a rectangular bolt pattern. It may very well be the Amerex bracket that’s flimsy.

I’ll check again to see if the B-K bracket to extinguisher bracket can be reoriented to line up more than 4 holes. Have not had a chance to look yet.
