No Z-rated Tires on 8.5J?
So I'm looking to buy 19" BBS CH-Rs in Titanium Matte. However, BBS only makes 19" CH-Rs with a 5x120 lug pattern in 8.5" and 9.5", which is .5" narrower than stock. I love the look of these wheels and have two main questions:
1) Can I swap my stock, summer Continental tires (245/265) onto these, and would the slighter narrower wheels cause any issues? 2) While purchasing from an online retailer called FelgenOutlet here in Germany, they informed me that Z-rated tires can only go on 9" and wider rims. Is this true in any way? I have never heard this before, but I've also never owned a car w/ Z-rated tires. Thanks for any assistance. Last edited by Nitromidah; 05-07-2018 at 06:20 PM.. |

Tires should fit on .5" narrower wheel - there will be slightly less "stretch", but I doubt it would be enough to affect fit. You could always go up to the 9.5", which means more stretch, which can actually potentially help with clearance / space under the fender.
#2 is complete bullshit. I had Z-rated tires on 8" wheels on my VW R32.

I was rooting hard for the Blue Jackets though. Pissed that Washington knocked them out. Hockey is my sport.

1) Simple answer is yes. 8.5J recommended width of tires is 235 or 245. 9.5J is 255 or 265. Will not have any issue but you could get more stretched look of tires when fitted to narrower wheels. 2) They are partially true. Speed rating of tires affected by width of tires not width of the wheels. However, wider tires should be more safe to be fitted on properly sized wheels that is under recommendation. If you can find a tire that are Z rated, and can fit (safely) on certain width of tires that is generally recommended, you should have no issue whatsoever. |

Thanks for the inputs, everyone! Posting these photos as a follow-up. I like them more than the OEMs, and the slightly narrower rims along with the OEM 245/265 Conti's allow a bit more protection to the face of the wheels. Now I need silver lugs up front, since BBS didn't give me front lugs... Last edited by Nitromidah; 12-17-2018 at 11:52 AM.. Reason: incorrect photos linked |
