What's even more impressive is that this time was achieved in a 6MT. Way to go!!

BTW, was Martin Tomszyk a DCT car? That certainly would give him a bit of an advantage over a 6MT. Shaun I see your getting comfortable in the M2 now. Still loving it? Last edited by norMcal; 06-29-2017 at 08:44 PM.. |

"BMW M2" **well modified**
The Boss 302 with a solid rear axle and hundreds more pounds beats it by a full second on OEM tires. http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna-seca-post-1988 |

Yep. And a DCT with it to make them *faster *
While we know the DCT is faster 0-60.. (see first gear in the DCT box vs MT ) .. I would love to see two cars, same driver same day and same track. DCT and MT. The gearing ratios of the DCT make it quicker in gears 1-3 but I'm not so sure that this advantage remains as the gears move upward in the DCT box... due to the spacing of the gear ratios in the 7 speed DCT it may not have an advantage on track depending on shift points |

Side note: I track an e46 M3/6MT and it probably makes about 365 hp. My DD is a 200 hp GTI with DSG and for the longest time I could not figure out why it feels almost as quick as my M3, despite it being way down on power. I always figured its just because of the flatter torque curve of the turbo engine, but the other factor is what I described above. Accelerating with the DSG is so seamless, you just bang through the gears and stay in a fairly narrow rpm range. As much as I love N/A engines and manual transmissions, it is no surprise to me that turbos and DCT's are taking over. They are faster, pure and simple. |
