A less comfortable car for just 60lbs in weight saving at a huge premium? No thanks.

The point of the M2 is like the old M3s, a car that's great on the road and on the track. But doing this really only makes it great on the track and if you're going that route, might as well go all the way.

The only thing that got me interested was the limited edition part, because, let's be honest, we all like exclusivity. But this thing will be worthless next to the M2 CS next year.

So it appears that the ZL9 portion of the package can be removed since that is port installed. Is this M2 more compelling at $55195 with a 6-speed? It would still include the M-school and higher top-speed limiter for $2500. No way to delete that one....

Not sure why people think it saves 60 lbs. 60lbs is nothing, you can go on a diet and loose 60 lbs or fill up your fuel tank 1/4 less.

Was that information from the dealership??? I thought I couldn't take off the Performance parts package that goes with manual seat package.

Yup, agree, pointless. Except to dupe a few guys out of their hard earned cash.

Yes it is. Although the manual seats and other features are set from the factory, the Performance parts are port installed and appear to be removable. Although I can't say that with 100% certainty, the question is, is that a more compelling option? I'm thinking about it.

Folks, I think the special edition at 150 units will retain the value in the long run....the price at 61K is a bargain with the car going up another $800 in a few months, plus next year look for another price increase. While it modifies the car and tweaks it just a little, I see these as the most valuable M2 in the long run when production ends on this car. The M2 is and will be an instant classic which will retain value and demand for how a true sports car should be.

I think this is a wise investment, especially at something close to sticker price or a few bucks over. I agree the M2 CS will be the car to own..but at 90K by the time the dealer gets though with you...61K is steal for this M2

The biggest deal on the ZL9 package is the factory coil-over suspension. For those that track the car regularly this will be a meaningful upgrade. For those that never drive on the track, this is a lot of money for no appreciable benefit other than (very limited) bragging rights.

Agree, unless you track the car the best deal is the base M2 and the M2 CS will be out of reach financially for most.

It will make no difference on resale.

Bmw could give you guys a lifetime supply of free cheetos hot & spicy and you would complain. The only calculation that matters is add up buying the accessories separately PLUS INSTALLATION and see if that is more or less than $6500. The other "weight saving" items are freebees which you guys usually go Gaga for... this makes an already rare car have a better and even more rare edition.

2023 BMW S1000RR  [0.50]
2022 BMW F900XR  [3.00]
2022 BMW X6 40i  [0.50]
2020 BMW M2C  [9.50]
It's funny how many people in the US moaned they wanted a M2 without all of the "frill"...I don't need an executive package...I want manual seats to sit lower and give me more helmet clearance...I don't need heated seats...and how many people added the M Performance coilovers and M performance exhaust at the port w/o trying the stock car first.

Now BMW NA offers it to people and everyone complains about it. I added the list prices except for the gloss mirror covers (b/c they are not offered) and it cost more than the $61,695 price listed, I didn't include any price increase (~$800) or port install costs but not sure on that one b/c I have seen some say they paid nothing and other say they did.

Edit:
Code:
 $ 51,700     M2
 $      995     D&H
 $      400     M Performance Black Kidney Grilles
                     - price drop to $159 ea under accessories vs. as an option
 $      162     M Perfomance Side grilles
 $   2,540     M Performance Exhaust
 $      980     M Performancer Ti Tips
 $   2,670     M Performance Coilovers
 $      153     Door Projectors
 $      ???      Gloss mirror caps
 $   2,500     M Driver
 $ 62,100
and don't forget if you strip out the executive package if it is even an option you can drop these frills
  • Rear view camera
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Automatic high beams
  • Active Driving Assistant
  • Speed Limit Info
  • Wireless Charging and WiFi Hotspot
  • Park Distance Control (rear)

now waiting for a future owner of this car whine about increased insurance rates b/c it doesn't come w/the nannies (Active Driving Assistant)...

I agree leave out the frills from the M2!

I'm happy to see this package in the M2 offered. Seems like BMW its going in the right direction. Could of the package been better? Yes, but its a good starting point. I think the future is bright for the M2. We will see more of these unique packages and upgrades to the M2 as it evolves.

I'm hoping this isn't a consolation prize for North America because were not getting the M2 CS.

Removing the cigarette lighter is probably the only change they could make to remove weight and still legally import it into the USA.

Don't expect major changes for the M2 CS if you still want it in the US.

A major change in the CS is an s55 engine.

I suppose. I wouldn't pay a huge premium for just the S55 M2 that was otherwise base though.

I'm talking weight saving items that would result in lack of EPA/federal safety standard approval without a high cost to bmw to address.

Yes. Let us never forget that the current N55 in the M2 is an utter and complete piece of garbage

No they added a bunch of enthuesist stuff and removed what the enthuesist said was fluff.

Maybe people should stop asking BMW NA to "read this thread"...they might get what they ask for...

They are basically throwing in the X51 option!!!!!!!

Oh! I see what you did there.

I have used the configurator so many times that I basically know all the options available for the GTS by heart .

The only way to get it would be to sell both my M3 and the 911C2S and still have to come up with a considerable amount. I DO NOT want to part away with the M3 period. I'm not giving away that V8 engine.

Anyway, my original post reply was based on the statement made by "Lax01" stating "South Bay BMW has one on order (and available) - they offered it to me (out the door pricing) for $78k today...".

IMO paying a premium is wasted money when you can get a 911 (997.1 or 997.2) for less than that. In my book, I rather pay the money for options on the 911 than the dealer's pockets.
